Marist College Ashgrove Old Boy Jack Ingram (2019) Cast in Netflix Feature Film

Congratulations to Marist College Ashgrove Old Boy, Jack Ingram (Class of 2019), on this outstanding achievement. Jack has been cast in the upcoming Netflix feature film The Mosquito Bowl, currently in production on the Gold Coast under the direction of acclaimed filmmaker Peter Berg, best known for Friday Night Lights, American Primeval, and Painkiller.

Following his graduation from Marist, Jack completed a degree in Musical Theatre at Griffith University, where he honed his craft and prepared for a professional career on stage and screen. His dedication has now led to his feature film debut, playing the role of Wilson alongside an impressive ensemble that includes Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgård, Ray Nicholson, and Tom Francis.

Based on Buzz Bissinger’s best-selling book The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II, the film tells the powerful story of US college football stars who enlisted in the Marines during WWII and played a legendary game while preparing for the brutal Battle of Okinawa.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Jack on this remarkable milestone and look forward with great pride to seeing him on the big screen when The Mosquito Bowl is released worldwide.

Celebrating Drama Achievements at Marist

The Drama Department has much to celebrate this term, with exciting student achievements both on stage and on screen.

Firstly, congratulations to Patrick Thirgood and Edward Hallo (Year 6), who recently undertook examinations with Trinity College London in Speech and Drama. Both boys achieved Distinctions, the highest possible result, reflecting their hard work, commitment, and outstanding talent. This is a remarkable accomplishment at such a young age, and we look forward to seeing their creative journeys continue to flourish.

Meanwhile, our Year 7 Drama students are preparing to step into the spotlight with the upcoming Short Film Screening. From the imaginative minds of our boys comes The Marist Boy Movie Trilogy—a tongue-in-cheek trilogy “to rival the greats… if they had no budget.” This festival will feature the premiere of three original short films: The Marist Boy, The French Exchange Student, and Lord of the Paper Clips.

Audiences can expect humour, creativity, and plenty of Marist spirit as the boys showcase the films they have devised and performed. Adding to the fun, several Marist teachers will also make special guest appearances.

There will be two screenings only on Wednesday 17 September 2025, in the Experimental Theatre at 3:30pm and 5:00pm. Families, friends, and staff are warmly invited to come along and support the boys as they share the results of their hard work and imagination.

With achievements ranging from professional-level Speech and Drama examinations to inventive filmmaking, our students continue to impress with their creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication to the arts. Congratulations to Louise Marshall and her dedicated team for creating these great opportunities for the boys.

Celebrating Our Year 12 Musicians – Pool Party and Soirée

As the end of term approaches, the Music Department is preparing to farewell our Year 12 musicians with a day of celebration, gratitude, and performance.

On Thursday 18 September 2025, all co-curricular music students are invited to gather at the College Pool from 3:15pm to 4:45pm for a Pool Party and Sausage Sizzle. This fun-filled event will serve as both a thank-you and a farewell to our Year 12 students, recognising the outstanding commitment they have shown throughout their many years in the co-curricular music program. Students will enjoy a sausage sizzle, soft drinks, and lolly bags as they come together for one final Department celebration.

As the festivities conclude, attention will turn to the highlight of the musical calendar - the annual Soirée. Beginning at 6:30pm in the Champagnat Centre, this gala event will showcase the College’s large and small ensembles and provide the community with the opportunity to farewell our Year 12 musicians in style.

Students attending both events are reminded that they may remain at the College between the Pool Party and Soirée. They should ensure they bring their performance uniform, music, and instrument with them on the day.

The Pool Party has a cost of $10.00 per student, with RSVPs required via Parent Lounge by Thursday 4 September 2025. By accepting the invitation, families confirm their son’s attendance, verify medical conditions, and ensure payment of the participation fee.

With an afternoon of fun and an evening of music, this special day promises to be a fitting tribute to the dedication and talent of our Year 12 musicians. Families, friends, and the wider College community are warmly invited to join in the celebrations and help us farewell these young men who have contributed so much to the musical life of Marist College Ashgrove.

Clairvaux MacKillop Battle of the Rock Bands

The College’s Year 12 student band The Waiting List will take the stage at the annual Clairvaux MacKillop Battle of the Rock Bands this year. This highly anticipated event brings together some of Brisbane’s most talented young musicians for an evening of high-energy performances and friendly competition occurring over three nights. Known for their dynamic stage presence and original sound, The Waiting List has quickly built a strong reputation within the College and beyond, recently earning airplay on Triple J Unearthed Radio as part of the Unearthed High competition. Their appearance at this year’s competition promises to be another exciting milestone in their musical journey, after taking out the winning place the College’s own Battle of the Bands competition earlier in the year. We encourage fellow students and the wider College community to come along and show their support for our students as they represent the College.

The Waiting List will perform on the evening of Thursday October 9, 2025 (Week 1, Term 4). Tickets can be purchased below.
