BridgeBuilders!

This term, 9 of our Year 5 and 6 students have had the unique and heart warming opportunity to participate in the BridgeBuilders program – a special initiative designed to connect our students with the elderly residents at AVEO, just across the road.

Over the past two sessions, students and residents have begun forming meaningful relationships, discovering just how much we can learn from one another when we take the time to listen and share.

As part of the program, students and their AVEO partners exchanged special mementoes, each with its own story. These included treasured sporting awards, items that reminded residents of beloved family members, a remarkable wartime book dating back to 1943, and even lifetime membership badges for both Fitzroy and Brisbane Football Clubs!

The sessions also included a hands-on challenge – the building of bridges! Working together, each student-resident pair created their own unique structure. Awards were given for the Strongest Bridge, Tallest Bridge, and even the Wackiest Bridge, with lots of laughter and creativity along the way.

I look forward to seeing these friendships continue to blossom in Term 4, as our students return to AVEO to continue building bridges in every sense of the word.
