Fantastic 3/4

Term 3 Week 8
3/4 Newsletter
Welcome to Week 9 of Term 3!
Literacy:
Over the last 2 weeks students have been learning about Reader’s Theatre and what it means to speak fluently. They have all worked on a script and had an opportunity to present to the other 3/4 classes. We were all very impressed with the way students worked to learn their scripts and practise the 5 parts of Reading Fluency: Rate, Accuracy, Automaticity, Expression and Volume. Topics of the Reader’s Theatre varied between each class but gave every student lines that they practised several times a week to ensure that they were able to read using an appropriate level of fluency. It was great to see different characters coming to life including pirates, knights and a range of other wonderfully creative characters.
Phonics:
In Phonics students have been learning about the “i” not at the end rule and when and how we use the letter y to turn a word into an adjective.

Maths:
In Maths, students have been working on a number of different key maths concepts. The Year 3 students have been learning about Formal Units of Time and how the duration of an event can be measured in Seconds, Minutes and Hours. The Year 3 students have also begun a unit of learning about fractions which they will continue until the end of Term 3. The Year 4 students have been introduced to 2 Dimensional Shapes and will finish the Term by learning about multiplication and division. The holidays are a great opportunity to hone these skills and we would encourage your students to revisit these concepts with you over the two week break. If you would like any resources printed to assist your student with any learning they have covered this term please feel free to speak to your classroom teacher.
Science
In Science, students have begun putting their dioramas together. The aim over the next two weeks is to add lots of facts and colour to the diorama and create something that reflects their knowledge about the planet of their choosing as well as its relationship to the earth and the sun. The project is a culmination of 9 weeks of learning about the relationship between the earth and the sun and an opportunity for students to share their new knowledge and creative flair.
