Principal's Report
Kaylene Kubeil
A huge thank you to Ms Gittos for stepping up last week to be the Acting Principal whilst I enjoyed a week of long service leave at an interstate family function. It made my break a more enjoyable one as I knew that the school was left in excellent hands with Ms Gittos, along with all members of staff supporting all our students to continue to 'Do Your Best'.
This week, our pre-foundation program started, and it's fantastic to see all the newest members of our Whittlesea Primary School community start their transition to school. Starting primary school is a significant milestone, and we understand that it can also feel like a substantial step for children and their families. That’s why our transition sessions are so important.
These sessions provide our soon-to-be students with the opportunity to explore their new classrooms, meet some of our teachers, and make lots of new friends. By becoming familiar with the school environments, children feel more confident, calm, and ready to begin their learning journey. For families, these transition sessions offer a valuable opportunity to connect with teachers, ask questions, and learn how best to support their child at home during this special time. Together, we can build a strong partnership to give every child the best possible start to their school experience. For our staff, these sessions are a chance to get to know each child’s strengths, interests, and needs, so we are ready to support them from day one of 2026.
Most importantly, transition is about creating a warm welcome and helping children feel like they belong to our school community from the very beginning. We are thrilled to meet every student and share in this special journey with them and their families.
Please be aware that whilst this program has commenced, the 2026 Foundation Enrollment are still open. If you know anyone who is yet to enrol for WPS in 2026, then please encourage them to do so as soon as possible, as we are in the process of completing planning for our 2026 school year.
Getting to and from school each day is an essential part of your child’s routine.
Whether they walk, ride, take the bus, or travel by car, safety should always come first.
Tips for a safe journey:
Recently, we have observed that some of our students are using electric scooters to commute to and from school. We ask that parents be aware of the current laws associated with the use of e-scooters. More information can be located at: https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safety-and-road-rules/%20e-scooters-in-victoria
By reminding our children about safe travel habits, we can help ensure that every journey to and from school is a safe one.
We had a lot of thrilled Collingwood supporters this morning around the school. If your team is in the finals, then good luck; if not, then there is always next year!
Enjoy your weekends and Happy Father's Day to all the Dads, Grandads and Pops!
Regards
Kaylene
