The Japanese Word of the Fortnight
さいこうです(pronounced ‘saikoh des’) which means ‘awesome’, is the Japanese Word for Week 8 & 9 of Term 4. You can simply use ‘さいこうです’ (‘saikoh des’) instead of ‘awesome’ when you feel ‘awesome’ or see something awesome.
Thank you / ありがとうございます(pronounced ‘aligatoh gozaimas’) for your continuing support for our Japanese program.

GRADE 1 - LEGO EDUCATION CENTRE
The Year One students enjoyed their excursion last week to the Lego Education Centre at Docklands. For the first activity, they were put into pairs and instructed to work collaboratively to use gears, hubs, axles and handles to create simple machines. In the second activity they were placed into larger groups and they explored different methods of construction design using Lego bricks. They were asked to build the strongest house that they could. They had to think about the best technique of stacking the bricks so that the walls would not collapse under pressure and were encouraged to explain the features of their design to the rest of the class.
GRADE 2 MELBOURNE ZOO EXCURSION
The Grade 2 students had a blast at the zoo last week! We saw so many different types of animals and enjoyed a lovely day with our grades. Teachers were really proud of students, who did Valksone proud with their respectful behaviour. We would like to thank Michelle W, Wayne, Jo, Dorina, Chantel and Nazanin for coming with us.
GRADE 4 - BIKE EDUCATION
As part of the Physical Education program, the grade 4s have participated in Bike Education. Students have learnt many skills including scooting, mounting, giving way at roundabouts and stopping safely. We also had a chance to practice these skills with a ride around the school and some fun activities on the basketball courts. Thank you to our parent helpers, we couldn’t have conducted these sessions without you. Also, thank you to Mrs Walker for organising and running these sessions.

EXPECTED DELIVERY
This week we had an update from the Bowen Mango Fundraiser:
We are experiencing an early crop shortage that means we will not be able to supply you Bowen mangoes in November. This is a very unusual season the likes of which we have not seen in our 35 years of mango farming. A typical season starts in mid-November and ends in mid-December with a peak around the 1st of December. This year we have very small early crop (less than 20% of an average November yield) and a much larger but very late second crop. We had hoped we would be able to supply all of our customers according to their preferred time frames, however despite our best efforts, we will not be able to make any further deliveries of Bowen Special mangoes during November.
Therefore our delivery of mangoes has been pushed to the week commencing
11 December. We will keep you updated as to the exact day of delivery once confirmed.
Thanks for your patience
