Melbourne Zoo Prep Excursion

On Monday 13th November, the Preps went to the Melbourne Zoo as a part of our Inquiry Unit on How the World Works, where we are learning all about how “All Living Things Grow and Change” and understanding what animals need to survive. We enjoyed visiting many animals to see their different habitats. It was fun when the seals and gibbons put on a show for us, coming right up to where we were, swimming and swinging to say hello. The Butterfly House was also a favourite for many. We got to get up close to two baby giant tortoises and learn about the things they need to survive. And we became Wild Explorers, searching the Growing Wild area for creatures with unique features. It was a big day with so many wonderful experiences! Thank you to all the parent helpers, without whom we would not be able to enjoy such fantastic excursions.

Zoe Daniel MP Visits Year 5

On Friday November 10th, Grade 5s were lucky enough to be visited by Goldstein Federal MP, Zoe Daniel. Zoe came to our school during the Year 5s current 'How We Organise Ourselves' unit of Inquiry. She spoke about many things, including what happens if someone crosses the floor during a vote, how she was elected to an electorate that had traditionally been a safe liberal seat, as well as her pride in being the first woman to represent the electorate of Goldstein. Grade 5s then took part in a Mock Parliament where they debated the bill of whether examinations in Australia should be banned. It was a fantastic opportunity for our Grade 5s to ask lots of questions about how parliament works, and our students represented the school brilliantly. Even though it was on the same day as the Colour Run, Grade 5 students elected to wear their school uniform to school, due to the importance of Zoe Daniel’s visit, which is a sign of great maturity and pride in our school badge.

Kinder Kids Visit CSPS!

The wonderful kinder kids from Caulfield South Kindergarten (GEKA) came to visit our school on Wednesday 15th November. Prep A were the gracious hosts, and they did an excellent job of reading stories to the younger children. We then took them on a brief tour of the school grounds and had a play together on the junior playground. It was terrific for the kinder kids to get a glimpse of where they are headed over the next year. Many of the children are already a part of our ‘Ready, Set, Prep!’ transition program so they were excited to have a different experience in what is becoming a familiar classroom. We were so pleased to have the opportunity to strengthen our connections within our local community.
