Assistant Principal Report
What a busy term it has been! As well as continuing our learning and extra-curricular programs, our current cohort has been preparing to step into Year 8, as well as welcome our 2024 Year 7s!
Bee Hotel
An incredible culmination of the hard work of our Garden Club, Wollert Secondary College was proud to recently host our local Members of Parliament and senior members of the Epping Road Upgrade Project. The whole morning was hosted by our students, who presented about the journey of the project and their learnings about bees throughout Australia. The students also shared cupcakes, plants and crocheted bees with our guests, to rave reviews.
Bully Zero Incursion
Our Wellbeing Team recently organised for Bully Zero to begin an important discussion with our Year 7 cohort about bullying, and upstander behaviours. Students attended a presentation, and the work is continuing in our Connect classes. As always, we strive to uphold our values of Be Kind and Be Safe, and to celebrate our students’ successes in these areas.
Year 7 Camp
Months of planning, and a lot of building excitement all came to a head in Week 6 with our inaugural Year 7 Camp! We were pleased to have 60% of our cohort join us for a jam-packed schedule. Between viewing local wildlife, engaging in active opportunities, and touring the stunning historical and natural sights of the island, our students and staff were well entertained (and well worn out!) throughout the three days. Overall, this was an excellent opportunity for staff and students to bond, and highly enjoyable for all.
Step Up and End of Year Celebrations
In Week 10, our first Year 7s became our first Year 8s, moving into the Tarwin building and meeting their new teachers. Students enjoyed a range of incursions about diversity and human rights, as well as learning how to navigate the organisational challenges that Year 8 will present.
Year 7 Orientation Days and Buddy Program
We are so proud of how our current cohort has supported our incoming students. From a trial Mini-Orientation with Wollert Primary School, to 15 students volunteering their time to support our buddy program, Wollert SC has shown a welcoming face to our new students. Students on the day enjoyed a BBQ, scavenger hunt, and a taster of secondary school subjects.
Final Reports
Final reports for the year have now been released on Compass. What satisfaction to celebrate the growth and effort of our students during their final semester of Year 7. Both teachers and students should be proud of the achievements that have been made.
End of Year Celebrations - Funfields, Assembly and Family BBQ
Students were thrilled to enjoy a grey but exciting whole school celebration day at Funfields, followed closely by our closing assembly for the year. Families were invited to join us to reflect on the Foundation year that was, and to celebrate the achievements of our students and staff. A Family BBQ capped off what has been an incredible first year of Wollert SC.
Enjoy a happy and safe break, and we look forward to working with you in 2024.
Regards,
Kim Gomez and Naomi Maes
