Middle School Awards

Jonathan Carpenter, Head of Middle School

From the Head of Middle School

In 2023, the Middle School at Emmaus Christian College continues to find its identity in Jesus Christ and the enduring joy that radiates through our staff and students, deeply rooted in their relationship with Jesus.

Guided by Nehemiah 8:10, we've witnessed joy as the strength of our community, from the start of the academic year to the final celebrations at the SA Aquatic Centre. The Middle School team, committed to a genuine Christ-centered approach, has cultivated an environment where students thrive.

Our intentional embrace of high expectations and unwavering support has prepared the soil for our students' growth. Experiences, from camps to extra-curricular activities, have fostered bonds, friendships, and a sense of freedom found in God, allowing students to take appropriate risks, learn and grow.

Our Middle School community, a cord woven with ourselves, each other, and God, faced 2023's challenges with resilience. Psalm 9:1 echoes gratitude for blessings amid uncertainties and what a joy it has been to see students step up into new spaces and serve in a wide range of College events including our secondary Musical - Freaky Friday, our Boys and Girls Community events, Middle School Wellbeing Day and many more.

Isaiah 43:19 reminds us of God's faithfulness through all seasons. Relationships are at the centre of this. We have greatly valued the ongoing partnership with families and were thrilled to strengthen connections at the Year 9 Rite Journey Ceremonies as well as establish new connections at the Year 7 Orientation Day Family Dinner. Thank you to families for partnering with us and supporting your children at these events. It was wonderful to see so many of you there!

In trials, James 1:2-4 guides us to consider it pure joy, for the testing of our faith produces perseverance, maturity, and completeness, anchored not in ourselves but in Jesus. As we close 2023, our successes are attributed to our exceptional Middle School team and, above all, the trust placed in the unwavering presence of Jesus, the true reason our College exists.

As I farewell the Emmaus community, I would like to thank you for the privilege and honour of serving as Head of Middle School and the joy of partnering with families like yours and our team to see young people grow.

Thank you.
