Music News

We’ve been busier than ever this year, performing out and about in our local community!

Here is a wrap up of our activities leading into Christmas.

Fyans Park Christmas Fair

In what was the wettest gig ever, Jazz Syndicate performed with style at the Fyans Park Christmas Fair, managing a quick change of performance venue and overcoming a few technical hitches on the fly. Students were as always wonderful adaptors, and particular thanks to Benny, Abbie and Heechan who battled the torrents to help with both set up and pack up.

Christmas ensemble @Kalkee

The Christmas Ensemble performed at Kalkee Aged Care last Monday, to a packed room of residents, who enjoyed singing along to the tunes they knew, and most of all, chatting with our students after the performance. Many thanks to Emma Moffatt for organising this event, which really showcased the community spirit that is such a valued part of our music program.

SingIt

Last Thursday, Singit opened up the PAC doors and put on a great Show at ‘Tunes’, entertaining the crowd with a really entertaining set of songs, including some epic solo performances. It was great to see the lunch time crowd at the canteen singing along to some of their Disney Favourites!

Many thanks to Ashleigh Hunter for her work with this group in Term 3 + 4 and can’t wait to see what they come up with in 2024! Remember SingIt is open to all students free of charge, so sign up!

Primary Schools Music Tour

Last Monday the BHS Tour Band travelled to three of our local Primary Schools, playing an entertaining mix of songs and demonstrating instruments to excited primary school students. BHS students were fabulous ambassadors, playing with great professionalism throughout the day, despite the hot weather! Special congratulations to Grace Britnell who compered every show with poise and confidence. The Rock Band, with vocals from Emily, Olivia and Grace was a great addition to the program too. We enjoyed some down time at the Highton Oval, playing cricket and having lunch in the shade.

Mrs Emma Moffatt went above and beyond on the day, stepping straight off the tour bus and into a performance with Beginning Band at the Year 7 expo. What a legend!

Congratulations to Oscar Wood, Rabhin O’Keife, Emily Flynn, Elin Basangan, Declan Chandler, Finn Ibrahim, and Sachindu Perera, who completed AMEB practical and/or theory exams in November. These exams are a national certification, and to achieve highly take lots of preparation and practice.

For all students this was their first exam, and every student achieved high results, ranging  from high credit to Honours. Four students achieved an impressive A+ , a great result for their hard work.

Thanks to Emma Moffat and Kristine Mellens for preparing these students so well!

A final reminder to get your re-enrolment forms in for 2024: find them on Compass under the school documentation tab!

Students wishing to learn multiple instruments.

We need to make sure we are offering as many students as possible the opportunity to learn an instrument. Once Year 7 Ensemble program enrolments are finalised, we will know what instruments are available for second instrument hire.

Please indicate on re enrolment forms if you would like to be considered for a second instrument, and we will notify you if your choice is available early in 2024.

Any students who are not continuing next year should have returned instruments to the band room.

Finally, wishing all our music students, teachers, and families a very Merry Christmas, and thank you for all your hard work and good cheer throughout 2023. See you in 2024!
