Staff News
We are at the time of the year when both students and staff make changes.
At this time, I can inform parents of the following staff changes for 2024:
- Ms Chloe Tritton has been appointed at Mont Albert Primary School
- Ms Shelley Dagan has been appointed and we look forward to having her join the Solway community
Further news about staffing will be announced when we finalise our 2024 planning.
Transition Sessions
As mentioned, the formal transition sessions begin this week with students spending time in the area of the school they will be in for 2024. The planning is well under way and in the final stages so we will be ready for the state wide transition day on Tuesday 12 December, when students will find out their 2024 class and teacher.
2024 Prep Parents Information Night
On Thursday 30 November parents of the 2024 Preps students will meet in the Prep Learning Centre at 7:00 pm. They will hear school information for 2024, and various matters for parents to be aware of as their children commence school. Parents will be able to meet their child’s teacher and find out the homeroom location in the Prep Learning Centre. It is a very exciting time.
Reports
Student Semester Two Reports will be available to parents on the afternoon of Thursday 14 December, via the Compass portal. There will be information in the Learning and Curriculum section of the next Newsletter on how to access the reports.
Solway Carols Evening
We are looking forward to celebrating with the community at the Solway Carols Evening on Thursday 7 December, commencing at 6:00pm. Parents are encouraged to bring along a picnic dinner, rug or chairs, and to gather in front of the Performing Arts Stage anytime from 4:30pm, please set up behind the cones, which will be set up for where the classes will be sitting. We ask that pre-schoolers remain with their parents throughout the night. Please note this is not compulsory, but rather a celebratory evening to get together and watch the students have fun!
Class Parties
Each of our Prep-Year 5 classes will hold a class party on Thursday 14 December to celebrate their year together. Each year level will provide information to parents about how this will run.
Instrumental Music Performance
On Friday all students who have been learning an instrument this year with our onsite musical providers were invited to perform a song at a school performance. This performance was a great opportunity for these students to present their learnings and share their enjoyment for music. A big thank you to the instrumental music teachers for their work in preparing the students and for their attendance and to all who came along to be the audience. Another big thankyou to Victoria Josephs who ran the event to keep things going smoothly!
Families leaving
2023 brings with it a number of good-byes as many of our families have made the decision to move out of our area. We wish everyone a wonderful transition to their new residence and schools and hope you keep in touch, we love to hear how our families are traveling.
Community Appreciation Afternoon Tea
Parents are invited to attend our Community Appreciation Afternoon Tea on Monday 11 December between 2:30-3:30pm. This is an important occasion for the Solway staff to acknowledge the fantastic support received from families and the broader community throughout the year. No matter how small you may feel your contribution may have been, we cannot continue to operate the activities and programs at Solway without your support and so please come along. Teachers go to considerable trouble to provide the catering for this event, in recognition of our appreciation of this parental and community support, so it would be lovely to get a strong turnout. We look forward to seeing you there.
Welcome Back Working Bee – 29 January (4-6 pm)
To make sure the school grounds are neat and tidy for the students’ return and the welcoming of families back for the 2024 school year, we are again holding a Welcome Back Working Bee. This will be just for two hours on Monday 29 January from 4:00pm – 6:00pm. If you can spare some time and come along it would be much appreciated. Please bring gloves and small tools to help us weed and tidy up and spread mulch in the playgrounds.
Final Assembly
Our final Assembly for 2023 will commence at 3:00 pm on Friday 15 December and will conclude when we farewell our Year 6 students at 3:30 pm. At the Assembly, we will announce the winning House in the weekly House Competition. We will thank and farewell the families who are leaving Solway in 2023 for all their volunteer work over the past years. Parents are welcome to join us for the final Assembly – it will be standing room only. We will hold this Assembly on the stage in front of the Performing Arts room, weather permitting.
