Performing Arts: The Circus is back in town.

After a brief hiatus to accommodate our fabulous indigenous incursion with the Wanyara crew, we are back to our circus focus across levels 1 to 6. After completing their spectacular unit on acro-balance, our level 5 & 6 performers have joined their level 3 & 4 compatriots in their work on poi (you can see some examples from 3B, 4B & 6A below). Poi originated in New Zealand with the Māori, but has since spread throughout the world to become a staple of circus, parades and roving festival performances. Level 1 & 2 meanwhile are continuing to develop their clowning and tumbling skills in preparation for their upcoming learning task, while Foundation work on movement and instrumental music.

Physical Education:

Our junior school students have been enjoying working on elements that will be included in our upcoming ninja warrior course. These include jumping, balancing, bunny hops and running. Our middle school students have been using their attacking and defensive strategies in a European handball round robin to highlight the transferable skills they have been learning. The senior school have been working on their coaching skills, with students identifying skills within various invasion games, teaching this skill to their peers and creating an activity where their team can practice this skill. Students then play other teams in small sided games. The next two weeks will see students further develop their skills and participate in games that consolidate their learning throughout the term.

Mandarin:

Level 3&4 students have been learning about different sports. They have created sentences using the vocabulary that were taught.

What sports do you like? I like to play tennis.

What sports don’t you like? I don’t like swimming.

Grade 5 continued with their travel plans. They learnt how to type in Chinese characters using their laptop.

They typed their travel plan into PowerPoint/Google slide, getting ready to present it to the rest of the class next week.

I want to go to Old Trafford in England.

First, I will fly to Dubai then take the plan to go to Manchester.

I will take a train to go to the Old Trafford station, then walk to Old Trafford.

Visual Art:

Students have been engaged in creating artworks with a focus on the art principle of Emphasis. Using inspirations from artists, graphic designers and their own imagination, students designed their image, chose their medium, and named and framed their artworks ready for display. Here are some fantastic artworks by 6D currently on display in the art room.
