Acting Principal's Report

Positive Climate Team Parent Volunteer

The DPW Positive Climate Team meets on a fortnightly basis to guide wellbeing matters at our school. The team consists of staff responsible for School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS), Respectful Relationships (RR), Mental Health and Wellbeing, and Disability Inclusion. Our team is seeking a parent volunteer to commit to joining the team. This will require a time commitment of approximately 1 hour, once a fortnight on a Tuesday afternoon from 2.15pm to 3.15pm. Should you be interested, please contact me as soon as possible.

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) Framework

I’d like to acknowledge the work undertaken by the staff at our school in implementing our revised SWPBS framework, especially the SWPBS team. At the end of last year, we submitted evidence against set criteria as to what we had implemented. We qualified for, and achieved, the Blue Award.

Now, to aim for the Bronze, Silver and Gold!

Proactive Policing Unit

On Tuesday, we welcomed 2 officers from the Proactive Policing Unit to speak to all of our year 5 and 6 students about safety. Officers Emma and Johnnie spoke to the students about the importance of being safe online and the issue of sharp-edged weapons in the community.

This included:

- why you don’t share personal details online

- not talking to people we do not know in real life, online when gaming, about anything except the game

- posting things that create a positive digital footprint, rather than a negative footprint (once it’s online, it’s there forever)

- possible ways you can share private information without realising, when posting photos and videos

- the consequences for online bullying and harassment

- knowledge around the law and carrying a sharp-edged weapon

- why you need to be an upstander

Welcome to Mrs Glouftsis

We welcome Mrs Glouftsis (Mrs G) to our school. Mrs G has previously taught at Burnside Primary and brings with her a wealth of knowledge. She will be a wonderful addition to our Year 3 team. Please make Mrs G feel welcome and take the opportunity to say hello.

Enrolments for Foundation (Prep) for 2025

Enrolments for our Foundation level classes for 2025 are now open. If you have a child at home who is eligible to start school next year and would like an enrolment pack, please pop into the office to pick one up. Information (including enrolment forms) is also available on our school website.

I am very happy to take school tours for those who may not be familiar with our school, or who haven’t been here for some time. If you would like a school tour, please contact the office on 9363 3519 or send an email to deer.park.west.ps@education.vic.gov.au

Kind regards,
