Absences due to ill health
Thank you to families that are picking up, or keeping at home, sick and unwell children. This helps to keep us all in better health. Along with familiar winter colds and flu, there is an increase in COVID, Chicken pox and now whooping cough across the school. Please be mindful that many of the early symptoms of these are similar so please let your doctor know your child may have had contact with these illnesses. Please remember to go onto Compass and log absences for your child.
Smile Squad
The dental van will be arriving at Mullum Primary School on Friday this week, ready to commence work on Monday. If you have booked your child for a dental check then they will be seen over the next two weeks.
Uniform update
As the cold weather sets in I would like to remind you that the winter uniform is black tracksuit pants, polo shirt and bomber jacket for all students. Raincoats can be worn outside during recess and lunch but does not replace the bomber jacket that is worn inside. Leggings and tights are not part of the uniform.
Grade 5/6 Camp to Bacchus Marsh and Sovereign Hill
In the last newsletter we mentioned our Grade 5/6 campers were away at Bacchus Marsh and Sovereign Hill. Here are a few snaps of their adventures:
Encounter Student Buddies
On Monday 22 July, we will be welcoming twenty overseas students to our school as part of our Encounter Program for 2024. These students will work alongside our students in their home room and specialist classes. Like last year, there is an opportunity for our students to be an official 'buddy' to our visitors, which does provide for additional opportunities to practice our school values; supporting their buddy to make new friends and learn new games; working alongside the buddy in their classes; participating in the Athletic Sports activities together; a special visit to Healesville Sanctuary; completion of cooking and art activities and more. If your child would be interested in being an official buddy to our overseas visitors, I invite you to email me directly to express interest. Here are our 2023 Encounter students and their buddies at Healesville Sanctuary:
Festival of Hidden Treasures
We hope you have set aside the afternoon of Saturday 23 November for our Festival of Hidden Treasures. Plans are well underway and it is shaping up to be a great day. All of our classes will be running stalls at the festival and will be calling on volunteers to support the fundraising efforts. Starting next term we will commence donations for the festival stalls including books; small household goods; clothing; toys, games and puzzles; BBQ items and drinks, plus more. During the upcoming holiday period if you are doing a clean out of the cupboards, think of the Festival and set them aside. We will accept the first lot of donations after the holidays.
Eastland - Shop For Your School
Were you wondering what we were going to spend that $10,000 on? Here is our latest purchase from the Shop For Your School winnings; hundreds of books (purchased from Big W Eastland), to add to our Library and Home Borrowing systems, so you may see these in your homes sometime soon. And if you are looking for some new books for your home collection, you might want to stop by Eastland at Big W and have a look at the amazing deals they have on offer.
Mullum Winter PJ Day - Friday 28 June
Last year, the Junior School Council asked students what they wanted for their school. This year, they are taking action and will be raising money to build benches for our playground and get new recycling bins for our classrooms. On Friday 28 June (the last day of Term 2) Junior School Council are asking students to come to school in their comfiest, cosiest, Winter PJs and to please bring a gold coin donation to help them reach their goal! Bring something warm to wear over your Winter PJs, such as a dressing gown, oodie or your school jacket. No Summer PJs - we don't want you to freeze! School shoes must still be worn on the day, but you can bring slippers to wear in your classroom.
Celebrating Kindness and Connection: Reflections On Friendship Activities
Last week, our school joined together in a heartwarming celebration of friendship and kindness during special activities with Kooramook groups. Students engaged in thoughtful discussions inspired by a touching video on kindness, sharing stories of how kindness from peers fosters a sense of belonging. They explored the connections between kindness, honesty, and respect, three of our four school values. Activities included creating a collective display of kindness and vibrant posters showcasing our values. Older students led younger peers, emphasizing the importance of kindness in building a supportive community. Witnessing this cross-age exchange reiterated our commitment to nurturing an environment where kindness thrives. Let's continue to spread kindness and strengthen the bonds that make our school a place where everyone belongs!
