Artist in Schools Program
Today we had a special visit from Gidja Walker as part of the Artists in schools program. The Mornington Peninsula Shire arranged for some schools near Western Port Bay the opportunity to participate in a free ‘Artist in residence’ program. The program involved our 3/4 students in a session that connected art and science. The local artist, ecologist and educator Gidja Walker explored the importance of Western Port Bay through a Yarn in the Web.
A Yarn web is a sculpture workshop. Together, students learned how to make string using locally sourced, introduced plant fibres and weave a collective web of life between the wooden dividers near our pizza oven. The students had an amazing time and added an amazing art piece to our new indigenous meeting place.
