Asombrosos Brillantes
Starting week 4 with soccer, footy, and netball against St. Fidelis, students showed terrific sportsmanship, and our school values of giving it a go, and stepping in to support each other, were visible across the board.
Information text is all the rage at the moment in our 56 spaces; in Spanish, students are writing about various Spanish-speaking countries. The choices have been fascinating and are a great way to include research and inquiry thinking within literacy. Enjoy some excerpts they are working on (draft):
The Duolingo scoreboard is looking great, and we encourage students to practice Duolingo at home. Add yourself to the class Duolingo if you have not done so already www.duolingo.com/classroom/mermed
Whilst in the English sphere, we've had a lot going on this week. Students have commenced their word within the code sessions, where they are investigating how words are connected through their origins, structures, and parts. We have continued our novel study of Dahl's 'Boy', and in writing, the students have been putting the finishing touches on their information reports.
We are all well and truly into divisibility thinking at this stage of the term. Using prior knowledge of divisibility and multiplicative facts, as well as, what strategies they know, students have been working on resolving some complex divisions, showing how students are embedding the ideas around "through mistakes we learn" and the "power of yet!."
In addition to our Facts, 10 Up is seeing fantastic results across the board; students have been doing some great problem-solving work using fun problems to practice all of what they have learned.
Work on this problem with your students and have some fun:
