Start Up Strings
Reflecting on our first performance
Start Up Strings 2024 gave their first ever strings performance at the Open Morning Concert on Wednesday 15th May. The children were in awe when they first came over to the hall and saw all the audience chairs and the orchestra set-up. When it was time to play in the concert, the focus from everyone was outstanding and so they were rewarded with a very fine performance. Lots of freely moving, well-co-ordinated bows resulted in a rich, beautiful sound. Great work Start Up Strings!
When discussing the experience at their next class, the students said things like:
“I felt very nervous. First I was scared I maybe might play the wrong melody or mess up or might be too late to play but when I was playing it felt good and I was very excited.” Amber 2N (cello)
“I felt very nervous and excited at the same time. But then I just focused on the cello”
Maya 2N (cello)
“At first I was distracted . . . ., but then I got into the music and it was really good” Lucy (2N cello)
“It sounded really nice when we were together playing” Lillian 3J (violin)
“I felt scared because of my stage-fright, but I was a bit excited. My fear went away when I started to play.” Hudson 2M (violin)
“I felt really excited once I played the cello, but before that I felt really scared if I was going to play the wrong notes.”
Bella 2N (cello)
“I thought I was going to be nervous at the start, but then when I started playing, I felt a bit confident.” Henry 2N (violin)
“When we were watching the Orchestra, it made me feel inspired to try trickier things in my lessons.” Luciano 3J (double bass)
“The concert was so exciting. It was the best day of my life!” Finn (violin)
