Stage 1

A message from Stage 1

Stage 1 students are continuing to engage in fantastic learning experiences. Students are diligently working on building their stamina, fostering independence, and developing a growth mindset towards all learning tasks. Our InitiaLit and maths groups are offering wonderful opportunities to observe student growth and celebrate their successes. Students also enjoyed participating in the K-2 distance run and the Olympic Day.

English

Students are learning to create informative texts and that descriptive texts can be informative and imaginative. Students are exploring the use of facts while developing their use of simple and compound sentences. They are planning, writing, proofreading and editing their information reports on various animals.

Mathematics

Students are learning to use number bonds and partitioning as strategies to help with adding and subtracting numbers. They are learning to understand the relationship between addition and subtraction to solve problems. Students are also learning to recognise, describe and represent shapes including quadrilaterals and other common polygons.

Drama

Stage 1 are learning to incorporate drama with imagery and explore elements of drama to create characters. Students are using props to develop their expressive skills through movement and voice. As part of the unit, students engaged in an exciting lesson about a stick not actually being a stick! They created artworks using a miniature version of their prop. Can you spot the keyboard, Christmas tree, bowerbird and Grandma? Can you see the birthday cake, the bow and arrow and the fancy Gucci handbag?
