Tina King- APF Victorian President
Throughout this term, I have had the pleasure of engaging with both members and non-members through the APF forums. While the primary focus of these sessions has been on discussing the current VGSA 2022 and sharing information for the development of the new log of claims, opportunity has also been afforded to engage in meaningful discourse on all matters impacting schools and principal class employees.
I am particularly humbled by the strong sense of connection and collegiality that exists within our school system—an invaluable quality that is often understated and not widely recognised.
One poignant example that stands out to me involves a small semi-rural primary school that reached out to neighbouring schools for a spare keyboard piano, as budget constraints prevented the school from purchasing this non-essential item. In an inspiring display of support, a local secondary school immediately and selflessly purchased and delivered the musical equipment, without seeking any recognition or accolade.
In another instance, I witnessed a regional school providing essential food items to students and families in need, without requiring the completion of any paperwork or the asking of questions, simply allowing those in need to help themselves. This 'food bank' initiative exemplifies the extraordinary lengths to which our schools go to support families and communities.
These examples highlight a deeply supportive and collegial system where schools unconditionally support one another. This spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance is neither measurable nor quantifiable, but it is the essence of what makes us proud to be part of the government school system.
Dates for upcoming forums are available on the APF Website (member login required). Please register your interest for the upcoming forums by emailing us at apf@apf.net.au. I look forward to continued engagement and inspiration.
