Kindness - We treat others as we would like to be treated

This week, the hot topic during Circle Time discussions and at assembly has been our school's value of kindness. Kindness is how we treat others and in turn, ourselves. At STM we strive to demonstrate kindness by encouraging and developing the following behaviours within our students and school community;

  • We are kind, polite and respect others
  • We listen when someone is speaking
  • We support, help and encourage each other
  • We are calm and compassionate when resolving issues
  • We welcome and include everyone
  • We accept and value difference
  • We are considerate of everyone at school and in the community

To support students further in knowing the expected behaviours we have the following rules;

  • Show manners to everyone (say “please” and “thank you”)
  • Keep hands and feet to self
  • Listen carefully when other people speak
  • Invite others to join in games or activities
  • Wait your turn
  • Accept other people’s interests and backgrounds

Teachers have begun to introduce two new routines that support our school values. Students, with the support of their teachers, have been doing an excellent job of using Entry and Exit routines to add a calm and settled learning space. Entry and Exit routines provide a structure for entering and leaving a learning space. They promote safety, organisation and optimise learning time.

Next Wednesday, Classroom Mastery coach Sara Wiggins will visit our school to further support leaders, teachers, and staff in delivering our behavior curriculum. We are looking forward to this learning opportunity with Sara.
