Kowree Primary Soccer, Football & Netball
With a few students unable to attend the soccer day, our combined team from the Kowree schools had the bare 9 players (9 a side soccer) for the day. We rotated through the goalie position for the day, with half the team trying the position. Our students tried hard all day, running out of puff in the last game, playing 4 games straight after each other. (With 5 minutes break between games.)
Our players worked well with each other and seemed to enjoy their day at the soccer, meeting some new students from the other schools in our region.
Soccer scores: Game 1 v Horsham West/Haven 3 (2-4 loss)
Game 2 v Holy Trinity 2 ( 2-1 loss)
Game 3 v Horsham Primary (3-1 loss)
Game 4 v Holy Trinity 1 (2-2 draw)
Last Wednesday, the year 5/6 Edenhope College girls joined Apsley, Balmoral, Goroke, and St Mal’s schools to make up 3 combined Kowree teams to compete in Horsham at the Winter Sports Carnival. The girls played five 24 minute games of netball in a round-robin competition. The girls displayed great sportsmanship, teamwork and showed some amazing passages of play. You would never have known they hadn’t played or trained together before.
The year 5/6 boys, along with the rest of the Kowree schools, played in the West Wimmera footy carnival. Although results didn’t go our way across the 5 games, the kids all displayed great teamwork and a desire to win. Special thanks to St. Malachys, Goroke P-12 College, Balmoral K-12 Community College, and Apsley Primary School for making the day possible!
Year 7-8 Netball
Recently the Year 7/8 girls travelled to Horsham and participated in school netball. They were fortunate enough to have a couple of the Goroke girls come and join their team for the day. The girls won 3 out of 5 of their games.
The girls were super supportive of each other and had a great day out playing netball with friends.
A very big thank-you to Mrs Kealy for organising and umpiring on the day.
Year 7-8 Football
Last Wednesday, Year 7 & 8 students participated in a football round robin in Horsham. We combined with Goroke to field a team of 12. Then, played full-ground games of 16 vs 16, borrowing 4 plays from the opposition each game.
We started the day with a big win against Warracknabeal, 46 – 9. Then had a loss to Dimboola, 8 – 21. During lunch, the footy players went over and supported the 78 netballers, showing great team and school spirit cheering them on. We closed out the day with a win against Murtoa 35-12.
All students showed a great sporting attitude, being respectful and fair in their play. They made friends and showed great spirit on and off the field.
A big thanks to Allan McIntyre for coming out and coaching the group on the day.
