Term 2 STEM News
Victorian Education Week 13th-18th May- Spotlight on STEM
What a wonderful term so far we have had in our STEM lessons. Victorian Education Week has a ‘Spotlight on STEM’ this year and it’s been excellent seeing students engaging in our STEM lessons, specifically seeing students working together in collaboration and using such great creativity in their designs. Have a read below to get a snapshot what each year level has been exploring!
Miss Wheaton (STEM Teacher Weeks 4-7)
Prep STEM
This term Prep are focusing on being Lego Legends. Students are learning about using Lego models to design for purpose. So far students have designed and built a Lego house, habitat and their next challenge will be a car.
1 / 2 STEM
Year 1’s and 2’s are on their way to become Lego Masters. Students have had a strong focus on using labelled diagrams in their design and reflection process. There have been many Lego houses created with a specific checklist of features and also the designing and making of a Lego car.
3 / 4 STEM
The 3 / 4 focus for this term is Tinkering on Tinkercad- an online Computer Aided Design program. Students have spent time learning different skills on the program and have been using those skills to design a keyring, personalised with their name. It has been excellent seeing their ideas come to life in their designs.
5 / 6 STEM
This term the 5’s and 6’s have also been Tinkering on Tinkercad. Students have been becoming more familiar with the functions within the program and are applying those skills to design and create their own avatar for a computer game.
CPS SPORTS NEWS
Friday Sport
Our senior students enjoying their participation in Friday Sport. We are focusing on Netball, Basketball, Hockey, and AFL this term.
Junior Phys Ed Updates
Our Prep to Grade 2 students have been making impressive strides in their basketball skills this term! Through engaging drills and fun games, they have focused on their dribbling, passing, and shooting techniques. The children are not only learning the basics of basketball but also developing teamwork and sportsmanship. It's wonderful to see their enthusiasm and confidence grow on the court.
CPS Cross Country Carnival 2024
On April 26th, we held our annual CPS Cross Country Carnival. It was a fantastic day out. Our students displayed determination and wonderful school spirit! Students from all year levels participated, cheering each other on as they tackled the course. Congratulations to all the runners for their outstanding effort and to the volunteers and staff for making the day such a smooth-sailing event. We are proud of everyone's hard work and wish our District qualifiers the very best of luck.
District Cross Country
On Friday, May 17th, thirty students qualified to represent CPS at District Cross Country, JL Murphy Reserve, Port Melbourne. A huge congratulations to all our representatives on a fantastic day out.
A special congratulations to Caitlin Pham and Reina Hernandez – Hasegawa who have qualified to Division Cross Country in the coming weeks. Best of luck girls!
