Education Week at Rosanna Primary School
Career Dress Up – Tuesday 21 May
There were scientists, marine biologists, zoologists, teachers, accountants, paramedics, nurses and even astronauts at school on Tuesday. The conversations and discussions that flooded the playground and classrooms highlighted this year’s Education Week theme, Spotlight on STEM. This focus highlights the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in our everyday lives, in the classroom and beyond.
National Simultaneous Storytime – Wednesday 22 May
Students gathered together in Learning Areas on Wednesday to join with thousands of students from across the country to celebrate reading. A small group of 2025 Preps joined with our current Prep cohort as well. Students listened to Aura Parker, an award-winning illustrator, writer and designer. She shared her book 'Bowerbird Blues' and explored how words and pictures inspire imagination, courage and confidence as well as a love, curiosity and passion for nature. While senior students responded with information texts others created their own bowerbirds!
Open Classrooms – Thursday 23 May

National Sorry Day Ceremony Thursday 23 May
School Student Leaders and First Nation’s students represented our school at the Banyule Council’s Sorry Day Ceremony at Malahang Reserve today. This ceremony is an opportunity for wider community involvement prior to the official day held on 26 May.
National Sorry Day remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’. The first National Sorry Day was held on 26 May 1998, one year after the Bringing Them Home report was tabled in Parliament. The Bringing Them Home report is a result of a Government Inquiry into the past policies which caused children to be removed from their families and communities in the 20th century.
The wider student body will mark the day at this week’s assembly.
Books Support Reading Through Library Fund
Thanks to all who have contributed to the Tax Free Library Fund at Rosanna Primary School. It has enabled the purchase of books that are being used in classrooms to support the reading program. Your contribution has enriched the resources of the school and has been gratefully received by teachers and students. Donations to the Library Fund or Building Fund go a long way.
Staffing Strains Continue
Rosanna Primary, along with other Victorian schools, continues to be impacted by staff shortages. While this can be disruptive for students and classes we continue make every effort to ensure the continuity of learning for all. At times, classes are required to be split with supporting material. While this is not a preference we have been forced to make such decisions as necessary. Every effort is made to ensure that this does not occur twice within the same week. Thanks to our part time staff who have increased their workloads to accommodate the state wide shortage and minimise the impact on Rosanna Primary.
