Deputy Head of College News

Mr Charles Brauer

Ongoing support for our Marist Family

Just another reminder that the information shared with our community on the return of the Head of College included reference to the many independent support services available if this matter has raised any personal issues. That link for support again is https://www.childsafety.gov.au/get-support  Other services are also available through the College.

The College and Marist Schools Australia continue to work directly and in a confidential manner to support any member of our community, including parents, students and staff, and I want to reshare those email addresses for anyone wishing to make contact:

msaexecutive@marists.org.au or community@marash.qld.edu.au

College Uniform

The College is currently undertaking a process to identify faded formal hats. Those students who have been identified by their Pastoral Group Teacher or Head of House will be asked to go to the uniform shop with their ID card to exchange their hat.  Students are able to do this before and after school and during their lunch breaks when the Uniform Shop is open. Students are encouraged to attend the Uniform Shop this week to exchange their hat however if they are unable to make it down to the shop there will still be an opportunity for this to be done the following week. Determination of hats for exchange due to fading will be completed by the College only.

Awareness Raising

May is Neurofibromatosis Month, aimed at raising awareness and improve understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of this condition. There is currently no cure.

Next Monday 20 May, Angela Wheeler, mum of Alex Wheeler (Year 11I), is walking 150 km to raise funds to further the research into neurofibromatosis. If you would like to support Angela with the endeavour, more information and offers of support can be found here . Students and staff are invited to show their support by wearing a Blue or green ribbon this Friday. Ribbons can be purchased from Anntoinette Restell at the CLE.

French Homestay

Following the success of the cultural immersion to New Caledonia during the Easter holidays we are very excited to announce the expansion of our new French Immersion opportunity with the Collège, Lycée Sainte-Marie in Lyon.

Students from Sainte-Marie Marist School in the centre of Lyon will be visiting us from July 14 -July 29 this year and we are looking for host families. Ideally, although not exclusively, we are looking for host families of students studying French in Years 9-11 to be host brothers for the boys arriving from France. A reciprocal visit to France ending with a stay with these same host brothers will be announced in due course. For expressions of interest, please contact Lucia Del Vecchio asap at delvecchiol@marash.qld.edu.au.

Save the Date!

Our annual Walkathon will occur on Sunday 11 August. All funds raised will go towards enhancing the College campus. The current coffee van, new basketball hoops, Champagnat Centre celling fans, the new music studio are the results of fundraising efforts of previous years. We look forward to engaging with our students with respect to their ideas for this year.

Families will be encouraged to join the Walkathon and for the fun of walking through the Gallipoli Barracks and notching up 15,000 steps across the 10km or cover 4km across an all abilities course - new for this year!

Tuckshop Volunteers Needed

Many of our parents are keen to help in some way to contribute to the Marist community that we are so well known for. Two ways to do this are through volunteering in the College Tuckshop during the day, or through the Sports Canteens on the weekend.

If you would like to volunteer in the Tuckshop during the day, please click on the relevant link below. Our Tuckshop convenor Josie Loucas will take your details and be only too happy to welcome you into the Tuckshop volunteer family. If you are too nervous to volunteer on your own, there is always the possibility of signing up with a friend. Just let Josie know if you want to be there at the same time as a buddy and I know she will help you out. We have parents who leave at the end of their son’s schooling journey commenting on how much they loved their regular (weekly, fortnightly or even term-by-term) Tuckshop catch-up with friends over the years.

For Sports Canteen volunteers, please keep an eye out on the App for calls to sign up. Remember – if you feel more comfortable with a friend, please rope them in and take them along. The more the merrier!
