We're thrilled to bring you the latest scoop on our budding talents in the world of hospitality. Despite facing a temporary displacement due to the ongoing upgrade of facilities at the Cyprian Pavilion, our Year 10 Hospitality Gateways students have been far from idle. In fact, they've been diving headfirst into practical experiences at the Newmarket Industrial Kitchen on Ashgrove Avenue.
Over the coming weeks, three separate excursions have been organised to this offsite facility, ensuring our students continue to hone their essential practical skills. While the upgrade progresses, this alternate location provides an invaluable opportunity for hands-on learning. And it's not just the Year 10 students benefiting from this arrangement – our Years 11 and 12 students will also partake in this enriching experience to fulfil their own mandatory practical requirements.
Meanwhile, our Year 11 students pursuing the SIT20322 Certificate II in Hospitality are embarking on an exciting journey of their own. They've delved into the heart of the Hospitality Industry through their mandatory rotational work experience at the prestigious Brisbane Racing Club (BRC) sites, located at Eagle Farm and Doomben.
Here, they're immersing themselves in all facets of hospitality, from the glitz of front-of-house operations to the hustle and bustle of back-of-house logistics. Function setups, bar work – you name it, they're getting hands-on experience in it. It's a comprehensive introduction to the dynamic world of hospitality, setting the stage for their future endeavours in the field.
The Year 11 students also eagerly took part in serving at the Mother’s Day Breakfasts held in the Champagnat Centre, much to the delight of all attendees. Their courteous demeanour and proactive assistance not only delighted guests but also underscored their burgeoning expertise in the hospitality domain.
As educators and mentors, it's immensely gratifying to witness our students seizing these opportunities with enthusiasm and dedication. Their resilience in the face of challenges and their eagerness to learn exemplify the spirit of hospitality that we strive to instil in every one of our students.
A heartfelt appreciation is overdue to our dedicated hospitality staff, with special mention to Ms Sue Going, Mrs Robyn Gooley, and Ewa Ransome, who have tirelessly gone above and beyond to ensure equivalent learning experiences during the upgrade of our College facilities. Their commitment has been instrumental in maintaining the quality of education for our students. We eagerly anticipate the completion of the Cyprian Pavilion upgrade, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to transition into what promises to be a state-of-the-art facility, perfectly suited for our lessons and activities.
We eagerly anticipate the continued growth and success of our students as they navigate through these enriching experiences. Stay tuned for more updates as our journey in hospitality education unfolds!
