Year 11 Reflection / Leadership day
On Tuesday, 19 August, Leadership Day took place for the year 11 cohort at St Peter’s College, Cranbourne. This day was a special and exciting opportunity for students to hear from inspirational speakers and take part in a range of team-building activities to ultimately help them decide whether or not they would like to nominate themselves for a position as one of the college’s future leaders next year.
In the morning, we heard from the wonderful and vibrant Timmy D, a part-time DJ and public speaker who shared his extensive experience of being a leader and his passion for helping young people. With his cheerful personality, quips and jokes, Timmy D lightened the mood while also offering valuable advice and wisdom on what it means to be a young leader and the power of self-doubt. Overall, the session helped students think about their role as future seniors of the school and provided many with the courage and confidence to pursue a higher leadership position.
In the afternoon, the year 11s then split off into their respective house groups, where they were led by their House Leaders in another presentation about leadership and participated in various collaborative activities with fellow housemates to help foster communication and connection between the students. In particular, students were tasked with the ‘Egg Challenge’, a test where they had to build a contraption out of scrap materials under a time limit that could hold and safely protect an egg that would be dropped from the second floor. Each group came up with distinctly different ways of creating the egg cradle, representative of the various ways leaders may come up with different solutions to solve the same problem, but we all had a blast watching every group drop their eggs and learned new skills in collaborating and problem-solving.
The day ended with a final presentation from our current College Captains, the wonderful James and Stella, who gave us our final challenge: a three-legged race through an obstacle course designed by our fellow students. Half of the students were paired up and blindfolded, while the other half were responsible for setting up the course for them to travel through and guiding them with their words. Although there were many safety risks and hazards, thankfully, the activity ended successfully, and we all had so much fun learning the importance of effective communication and working together.

Father's Day
By the time this publication has come out we will have already had the significant men of our student's lives, in for a brekkie and catch up to acknowledge the great work they do as fathers, father figures and mentors to our young people. A report about the Breakfast will be in our next publication however in the meantime, on behalf of the students of St Peter's we wish all Fathers and father figures a wonderful Sunday ahead.
