Library

Term 3 saw crowds and activities increase in the library as we celebrated Book Week.

Book Week falls in mid-August but planning and preparing starts weeks ahead.

Writing and Art competitions started early and activities such as trivia, crosswords puzzles and treasure hunts kept the library buzzing at lunchtimes.

The popular guess the lollies in the jar competition had students (and teachers) hovering around the jar for ages.  Some actually attempted to count the lollies…others measured the jar.

In the end it was a lucky guess by a lucky student who won the prize. Congratulations Manizha of Year 7 who guessed 153 and walked away with enough lollies to see the year out (perhaps a visit to the dentist is not far away either).

Micro Story competition – Lots of micro stories poured in over the past month. The theme was Adventure, to coincide with the Book Week theme.

First prize went to Shokria of EAL.  Shokria won a $50 Campion Voucher to put towards her books for next year.  Shokria gave herself the best possible chance at winning as she entered over 10 micro stories.  Well done!

Recreate a Book Cover Challenge – The Lyndale Greens primary school grade 5 students were excited to participate in this challenge.   Judging was hard but we finally found some winners.

Our winners were Ileesha, Lily & Ashmitha of Year 8. Congratulations girls!  Your recreation was so good that we could barely tell it apart from the original.   The girls were awarded gift vouchers and a hamper worth a total of over $150.

We were fortunate enough to host 2 incredible guest speakers during Book Week.  Renowned fantasy author, Isobelle Carmody and children’s author and funny man, Scot Gardner

We opened up our doors to Lyndale Greens Primary school and invited the Grade 6s to join us for Scot’s presentation. Based on the endless amount of questions asked at the end, we are guessing the students thoroughly enjoyed these 2 special events.

Now that Book Week is over for another year we return to everyday activity.  Students are encouraged to borrow over the school holidays.  New student ID cards were given out in July, and we remind students to bring your ID cards to the library when planning to borrow.  This will allow us to identify you with the photo ID plus speed up the borrowing process.  In the meantime, we continue to stock the latest books and maintain the library in an orderly way so that students who need to read, study or simply find warmth and comfort keep coming back.
