Dear Families & Friends.
Today the students and teachers have been to the Melbourne Zoo. Thankyou to all those that ensured our students got to school promptly to maximise our time on the excursion.
We will include some photo's in next weeks newsletter, but keep a look out on our socials for photo's of the day.
Don't forget the children are invited to wear their favourite sports team or clothing to school on our last day for Term 3 - Friday 19th September.
Our Learning:
English:
This week the students began reading Storm boy. As part of their English each week the students practise handwriting, learning to write in cursive script. The students also learn typewriting skills, specifically to ensure correct hand & finger placement on the keyboard. The students learn finger placement a small group of letters at a time, they type words and sentences specifically to practise these letters. This will ensure the students can type productively and gain speed as they get older.
Next week, the students will continue to read Storm Boy. The story is set at the Corrong National Park, these wetlands are a beautiful setting based in South Australia. Students will begin to research this area of Australia, before beginning to construct an information report about its location, its cultural significance and the flora and fauna of the area.
Mathematics:
This week, the students learnt about applying numbers to two decimal places in financial contexts. Next week, the students will be converting money between dollars and cents before moving to using decimals while measuring length of objects.
Integrated Studies:
The big activity of this week was our zoo excursion today. Next week, we will be using what we have learnt at the zoo to pledge to care about our animals and ourselves.
Religion:
This week the students continued their 'Fuel for the Journey' unit by learning about the Symbols, Rituals & Gestures of the Eucharist. This supports our students who are completing their first communion over the next two weeks. We look forward to seeing them act on their faith in ceremonies at 2pm on Sunday the 14th and 21st September.
Social Emotional Learning:
The students continue to learn about Positive Gender relationships. After participating in R U Okay day activities, the students will learn about the "No, Go, Tell" Model next week. In this model, ff a person is in a situation where they feel unsafe, or affected by violence, they can:
Auslan:
The students are currently, and will continue to review the whole terms learning of Auslan. To do this, the students will show a character’s actions in a signed story and play a signed game using a range of signed statements about their thinking.
