Year Three
Spotlight on Learning
Ephesus Community
Dear Families,
What a busy term it has been—we can’t believe we’re already nearing the end of Term 3! It’s been full of learning, exploring, and growing together, and we’re so proud of all the effort and enthusiasm the students have shown.
Don't forget the children are invited to wear their favourite sports team or clothing to school on our last day for Term 3 - Friday 19th September.
This week was National Child Protection Week. We discussed how to keep ourselves safe, who we can trust, and which adults we can go to if we ever need help.
Religious Education
In Religious Education, students have been exploring what it means to be part of the Sacramental Church. They learned that Baptism begins our journey of faith, and Reconciliation helps restore our relationship with God and others. Through the lens of the Triune God, students reflected on how the Holy Spirit guides their choices and helps form their conscience. We also explored Church Tradition, recognising that we are all part of a faith community journeying together with love, support, and shared belief in the message of Jesus.
Integrated Learning
In integrated learning, grade 3’s have been learning how respect helps us build strong, caring communities. They explored ways to show respect to others, understand and accept differences, and how these actions help everyone feel included and safe. We also focused on learning how to check in with others by asking, “Are you OK?” Students practised showing empathy, kindness, and support when someone might be feeling sad or worried. These lessons help students understand the importance of looking out for one another and the power of respectful relationships.
English
We are now in Week 2 of reading Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White, and students are thoroughly enjoying listening to this classic story being read aloud. As we journey through each chapter, students are practising their summarising skills by identifying key events and main ideas. These summaries help build comprehension and support their development as thoughtful, reflective readers. In the coming weeks, students will continue to build vocabulary and strengthen their narrative writing skills through linked tasks and discussions.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students have been learning to identify, describe, classify, and construct three-dimensional (3D) objects. They have been naming and working with shapes such as cubes, prisms, pyramids, spheres, cylinders, and cones. Students are developing their ability to describe the features of these objects—including faces, edges, vertices, and curved surfaces—and are sorting and comparing them based on these properties. They are also exploring how 3D objects are used in everyday life, such as why spheres roll or why boxes are shaped like rectangular prisms.
Social and Emotional Learning / RRRR
In SEL, students have been learning how to combine trust and courage when they need to ask for help. Using the No, Go, Tell safety model, they explored who they can turn to when something doesn’t feel right and what they might say in the “tell” step. We also began discussing help-seeking strategies in situations where someone might experience or witness unfair or harmful behaviour, including gender-based violence. These important lessons are helping students build confidence, recognise safe and trusted adults, and develop the language and courage to ask for help—for themselves or others—when needed.
AUSLAN
In Auslan, students have been using their imagination to create and share short signed stories. They also played games using simple Auslan phrases like “I know” and “I remember,” which helped them build confidence in using everyday signs. As part of our learning, students explored how Deaf people celebrate together, gaining a deeper understanding of Deaf culture and community.
