Year Two

Spotlight on Learning

Damascus Community

Dear Families,

We've had a wonderful week, starting with exciting learning opportunities and ending with an engaging First Aid incursion.

Don't forget the children are invited to wear their favourite sports team or clothing to school on our last day for Term 3 - Friday 19th September.

This week we are learned about...

Religious Education: This week students have been learning how to understand and talk about the meaning of the first reading during Mass. They are working on exploring its message and how it connects to the rest of the Mass.

Mathematics: Students have been learning to identify, sort, and classify two-dimensional shapes. They are exploring the differences between regular and irregular polygons. Additionally, students are practicing combining and splitting shapes, using terms like edges, corners, and vertices to describe them, and they are learning how to organise shapes into collections.

English: This week in literacy, students enjoyed reading Lunch at 10 Pomegranate Street. They took part in a variety of engaging writing activities, including retelling the story in their own words, practicing sentence writing using subject and object nouns, and imagining what special dish they would cook if they lived at 10 Pomegranate Street.

AUSLAN: Students have been learning that deaf people around the world use signed languages to express what is important to them. They are developing expressive signing skills, including how to sign actions like closing something and sharing their thoughts while playing a game.

Integrated Studies: This week, students learned about how healthy eating affects different organs in the body, including the heart, lungs, stomach, and liver. They explored how good nutrition helps these organs function properly and how unhealthy eating can impact their health.

Social Emotional Learning: Students have been learning about body privacy and personal safety. They are learning which parts of their body are private and how to recognise early warning signs, such as feeling scared or uncomfortable, when they don’t feel safe.

Important Reminders

Mass

We have an upcoming Mass on Wednesday, September 17th. We’ll be singing the following songs during the service. Please take some time to practice these songs with your child at home to help them feel prepared and confident!

Art Competition

We’re excited to let you know that this year’s Catholic Earthcare's Annual Art Competition is just around the corner. The theme for 2025 is “Peace of Creation”, and all students are  encouraged to take part. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to express their creativity while reflecting on the beauty and harmony of the natural world. We look forward to seeing their inspiring artwork! Find out more here.
