Music Showcase

The Music Showcase was held on Wednesday night, and I’m glad to say it was a resounding success. We had performances from strings, chorale, junior band, and concert band, as well as some solos and smaller group performances. I would like to personally congratulate each student who performed in the concert, their effort and dedication towards their music has not gone unrecognised. A shout out to all the soloists of the night; Isaac L, Emily W, Alex B, Bryn O, and Jeremy D. Having a solo performance is not for the faint of heart and I commend each of you for your hard work and preparation. A massive thank you to all the teachers and staff who made the night possible, whether through conducting ensembles, teaching music lessons, or helping to plan and run the night.

This concert was also the last ever for me and my fellow Year 12 cohort of musicians: Alex B, Cameron S, Daniel P, Emily W, Heath G, Phoebe C, and Victoria C. Each one of you has made a valuable contribution to the music department in your journey through Norwood, and I can’t wait to see where these amazing people go in their music past school. I can’t imagine what the music department would look like without any of these people, and I’m so glad all of you have joined me on this crazy adventure of being a musician at Norwood.

And finally, I would like to thank my fellow Music Captain Victoria C, and Vice Captains Bonnie M and Maddy D. You guys have been amazing this year, working hard and picking up new (and not insignificant) responsibilities with the retirement of our beloved Ms Dema. In every concert, trivia, and open night you have been ready and willing to help and have made a remarkable impact on the music department this year. Thank you so much for your support this year, you are all incredible people that I’ve loved working with so much.

R U OK Day

As a member of the Year 11 Leadership Team, I was very proud to see our students and teachers come together for R U OK? Day last Thursday 11 September. This day is an important reminder that a simple conversation can make a big difference in someone’s life, and our continuing commitment to support the cause at Norwood. Showing support, care, and kindness to those around us, it was inspiring to see staff get dunked in the water tank of which us students raised enough money to watch them get dunked in their wacky costumes. On top of that there were also food trucks, a petting zoo and face painting for our school community to enjoy. This day highlighted the strength of our community.

Let’s continue to check in with one another not just on R U OK? Day, but every day because this conversation matters.

Footy Colours Day

Today on the 19th of September, our school came together to celebrate Footy Colours Day showing off all our different teams and support for the sport. Students and staff proudly wore their favourite jerseys, creating a vibrant sea of colour across the school. The day was filled with fun activities and the main event of a student vs teachers football match, which emphasised the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship. A notable player also returned to the field for the first time in 6 years: Mr Billy Longer shocked the crowd with a fabulous display of skill. A highlight of the day was also the barbecue run primarily by the Year 10 SRC/Leadership Team which brought lots of excitement and laughter whilst raising money for fightMND a charity that Norwood is proud to support.

Footy Day not only gave us a chance to celebrate a much loved Aussie sport, but it also gave us the opportunity to come together as a community and show our school spirit whilst donating to a good cause.

Thank you to everyone who participated and made the day such a success!!
