State Lacrosse Champions

I wish to acknowledge the amazing effort of our students' at the Intermediate State Lacrosse Championships on Friday, 29 August. With weather threatening us all day, the boys used their high level of skill, teamwork and great communication to end the Pool Matches undefeated, and top our division ladder scoring (a comp high) 66 goals and conceding 30 goals (goal difference of +36). This guaranteed us Finals and a Top 4 finish on the day.

In the Semi Final we met 2nd place from Pool A (Montmorency SC) and the boys finally left 1st gear and started to switch on in a highly competitive match-up. The end result being 13-9 to get us a spot in the Grand Final to play for the State Championship.

Both Norwood and Patterson River SC were undefeated for the day, and the Patterson River SC were previous State Champs at Year 8 Level two years back so we knew it would be a challenging match. This is when the weather turned and the game was met with high winds, torrential rain and slight hail storm. However, not to be shaken the boys kept their nerve and delivered on the big stage. Patterson River gave it their all, using a strong running game, however they were unable to match our boys high level of technique and skill across the game.

Scores stayed either level or at 1 goal difference for almost the entirety of the final, however with about 30 seconds left we were able to put one in the back of the net and then defend like crazy eventually winning 9-8 to win the State Championship. A truly great effort!

In only our 2nd year of giving this competition a go, providing students the opportunity to display talent in their chosen field, I am so pleased for the boys with this achievement. Thank you also to the families for transporting and supporting them during the tournament.

Please see an attached photo with their championship flag (although I might look into changing the flag title 'Best Performed School' to 'State Champions!!').

Students' participating: Bay S (Year 7), Tru S (Year 8), Jackson B (Year 9), Emin S (Year 9) and Ryder T (Year 10).

Exciting news from Year 9

Leah M (9G) recently represented Victoria in the SSV Under 15 Hockey Championships, held in Canberra from 2–9 August. The Victorian team came away with a silver medal, with Leah earning the honour of Player of the Match. Adding to this outstanding achievement, she was also selected for the SSA All Australian Team — a remarkable recognition of her talent and dedication.

Leah has represented Norwood at the highest level, making our school community incredibly proud.
