A few of our favourite things in 5D
For 5D, this term has been packed with creativity, curiosity, and plenty of problem-solving. We have loved exploring big ideas and asking “what if?” as we dive into our learning across all subjects.
In English, we have been learning all about animals and their habitats. We have researched structural and behavioural adaptations and are now creating multimodal presentations to share what we have discovered. It has been fascinating to see how animals survive in their environments and how they change to suit their needs.
In Maths, we have been mastering time. We are working on converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time and using our skills to solve word problems. We have also been exploring 3D shapes, their connections to their nets, and identifying vertices, faces, and edges. Students are explaining how they know the net will fold into the correct 3D shape, thinking like true mathematicians.
In Science, our imaginations have run wild as we create our very own animals designed to survive in different environments. We have been comparing the structural features of our creatures and thinking deeply about “what if” scenarios, like what might happen if the trees were cut down. Could our animals change their behaviours to survive? These questions have made us think like real scientists and problem-solvers.
In HASS, we have travelled back in time to the Australian gold rush of the 1800s. We have explored timelines, discovered important people and events, and thought carefully about the different groups of people who were impacted during this fascinating period of history.
In Design Technology, we are putting our creativity and problem-solving skills to the test by building our own non-digital games out of recycled materials. Our games must meet a set of success criteria, including being durable, portable, and entertaining. They also need to include mechanisms such as moving parts and joins, along with clear instructions so others can enjoy playing them.
Every week has brought something new and exciting. We have been writers, mathematicians, scientists, historians, and designers, and we are proud of all the learning we have achieved in 5D this term.
☀️ No Hat, No Play
We are noticing an increasing number of students arriving at PE lessons without a hat. Our spare hat supply is very limited.
Please ensure your child brings their own clearly named hat to school every day. Hats are an important part of our SunSmart policy and are required for outdoor activities, including PE.
Thank you for helping us keep our students safe in the sun.
