Principal's Message
Term 3, Week 10
Hi,
This week we celebrate Book Week! Book an Adventure is the theme this year and isn’t that wonderfully apt - books are portable magic that can take us on adventure anywhere, at any time of day! Today the Library Monitors ran Books in the Breeze sessions at lunchtime in the Oasis - how dreamy, thank you to our amazing Library Monitors! Thank you to everyone who sent their child in with a Gold Coin donation for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation too; this is such a worthy cause to support. The Treasure Hunt Book Week incursion is on Thursday and Friday, as well as in class Book Week activities. Friday morning is the event so many of us look forward to, which is the Book Week Parade, starting at 9:15am. Parents and Caregivers, you will have different spots around our school where you can get a good look at the ’paraders!’ We look forward to a wonderful week this week and thank Mrs Annika Sauvage and the Book Week Committee, for inspiring us and organising this fantastic week celebrating reading!
The Queensland Union Debating competition was last Thursday and we were proud of all of our Year 5 & 6 Debating teams who did a wonderful job! Three our of our four teams won - congratulations! The debate topic was, We Need To Reduce School Holidays!!! Debating is such a great skill that prepares you for so many different moments in life - thank you to our debaters and to Mr Tait their coach.
Book Week is not the only wonderful thing on in our last week. Some year levels are having Learning Celebrations and we look forward to welcoming parents and families in to share in celebrating the wonderful learning done throughout this term! We also have the Junior Cross Country coming up this Thursday for our Prep to 3’s and my memory of last years was that it was a lot of fun!

Congratulations to all of the children who received STAR Awards on assembly last week, we are so proud of you!
Last week we had the Consul General of Japan, Mr Ishikawa and Mrs Ishikawa and also representatives of the Australian Japan Society come to our STAR assembly to see our Japan Study Tour group perform and they did a beautiful job of singing and dancing for us all. Consul General spoke beautifully, as did Mr Hayes from the Australian Japan Society. Thank you to them and also Mrs Marianne Huxley. Our travellers are departing this Wednesday and we wish them all safe travels as they go over to Japan and be outstanding ambassadors for Ironside State School. Thank you to Mrs Shelley Lee, Mr Thomas Corbett and all of our staff who have organised this once in a lifetime opportunity!

Our P&C threw in a surprise this week and are holding a movie night to celebrate Father’s Day belatedly this Thursday Night. It starts at 6pm and there will be popcorn and drinks for sale. We just might see you there (if you have your Book Week Parade costume already sorted!).
I want to thank everyone for another fantastic term - our staff, families and of course our children, there have been so many things to celebrate! Please have a wonderful holiday. I hope you get to rest, get things done and enjoy spending time with your people. I look forward to seeing you all in term 4.
Have a wonderful week.
Yours in Education,
Angie Kelly
