Teaching & Learning

This year we have proudly introduced our new College-wide Teaching and Learning model, built around the four key elements of Engage, Explain, Enrich, and Evaluate. This framework has brought greater consistency to classrooms across the College, ensuring that students experience high-quality lessons that both challenge and support them. Already, we have seen its positive impact in strengthening explicit teaching, building essential skills, and encouraging students to grow as independent, reflective learners.

Beyond the classroom, students have also embraced a vibrant and busy program of extracurricular activities. They have represented the College with pride in Interschool Sport, showcased their creativity and talent in our spectacular production of The Addams Family, and impressed audiences at musical recitals. Our debating teams have tackled new challenges, while many students have participated in leadership programs that strengthened their confidence and skills. Year 10 students also completed work experience placements, gaining valuable insights into potential career pathways. These opportunities play a vital role in developing the whole child and fostering a strong sense of community.

We were also excited to launch a newly established program — Construct. Designed for students in Years 7, 8, and 9, Construct is an engagement initiative that provides opportunities for applied learning. Students have undertaken a range of hands-on, school-based and community-focused projects, developing teamwork, problem-solving, and practical skills while making a positive contribution to the College and local community.

This term, families received Semester 2 Progress Reports and many attended Parent–Teacher Interviews. These touchpoints provided valuable opportunities to reflect on student progress, spark meaningful conversations, and set clear learning goals. We thank parents and carers for their continued partnership in using these reports as a springboard for growth, stronger study habits, and the celebration of student achievement.

Looking ahead, our Semester 2 Examinations are scheduled as follows:

  • Year 11: 13–20 November (VCE VM students do not have exams)
  • Year 10: 14–20 November
  • Year 10 Applied: 19–20 November
  • Years 7–9: 17–20 November

Examinations are an important opportunity for students to consolidate and demonstrate their learning through a summative, standardised assessment. They also play a crucial role in preparing students for the rigours of future VCE examinations, helping them to develop essential skills such as time management, revision strategies, and independent study habits. We strongly encourage families to avoid scheduling medical appointments, family holidays, or other absences during this period to ensure all students can complete their assessments as planned.

We are immensely proud of what our students have achieved so far this year, both inside and outside the classroom, and we look forward to continuing this momentum as they grow as learners, leaders, and young people preparing for their futures.

Supporting Your Year 12 Student in Preparing for VCAA Examinations

As our Year 12 students approach their final weeks of classes, attention is turning to the upcoming VCAA examinations. This is a significant time in their educational journey, and the support of families can make a real difference.

Parents and carers can play an important role by:

  • Creating a balanced routine – Encourage regular study sessions, balanced with time for rest, exercise, and healthy meals.
  • Providing a supportive environment – A quiet, organised space for revision can help students focus.
  • Checking in regularly – Gentle conversations about study progress, upcoming exams, and wellbeing show your support and help students feel less overwhelmed.
  • Encouraging effective strategies – Reinforce the importance of practice exams, using revision guides, and seeking help from teachers where needed.
  • Supporting wellbeing – Remind students to take breaks, get enough sleep, and reach out if they feel stressed or anxious.

Above all, remind your child that consistent effort and persistence is what truly matters. The upcoming exams provide an opportunity for students to showcase their learning, and we wish all our Year 12 students every success as they enter these important final weeks.
