What to do over the School Holidays?

Who can believe term 3 is already coming to an end. If you want to make  home during the school holidays more relaxed and fun, maybe you can have a family movie night, have a dance party, build a fort, or play board games. Other fun options include arts and crafts like making puppets or painting, cooking or baking together, or doing outdoor activities like planting a small garden.

Arts & Crafts

  • Make sock puppets: Create puppets from old socks and put on a show for the family.

  • Paint and draw: Try painting pet rocks, using marbles for a unique painting effect, or creating a body outline on butcher paper and adding organs.

  • Create something new: Use craft kits to make friendship bracelets, origami, or a tile mosaic.

  • Make slime or playdough: Homemade slime or sparkly playdough can provide hours of creative fun.

Family Entertainment & Games

  • Host a movie marathon: Choose a family-friendly film series, make some popcorn, and create a cozy atmosphere with blankets and dimmed lights.

  • Build a fort: Use blankets, pillows, and furniture to construct an epic indoor fort.

  • Play board games: Organise a family board game tournament for some friendly competition.

  • Have a dance party: Clear some space in the living room, put on some upbeat music, and let everyone have fun moving and grooving.

Cooking & The Outdoors

  • Bake together:

Get the kids involved in making a cake or homemade pizzas for a delicious treat.

  • Plant a garden:

Start a small herb, flower, or vegetable garden in your backyard or balcony to learn about nature and responsibility.

  • Have an indoor picnic:

Pack a picnic with your favourite foods and enjoy a meal on a blanket in the living room or backyard.

Relax & Unwind

  • Create a family photo album:

Look through old photos, share stories about your family history, and create a new album together.

  • Read a book:

Relax with some quiet reading time, perhaps with new books from the library or a favourite author.

  • Look at the stars:

Watch the sunset or, if you have a clear night, do some stargazing to enjoy the beauty of nature and bond as a family.
