Last week, our college enthusiastically celebrated Science Week with the national theme "Species Survival – More Than Just Sustainability." The week was packed with fun and informative activities that highlighted the critical role of biodiversity and the intricate balance within our ecosystems.

The week began with a homeroom colouring contest, where students creatively depicted endangered species. On Monday, the focus was on genetics as students built DNA lolly strands representing endangered animals, underscoring the importance of genetic diversity in species survival.

Tuesday saw students competing in a Kahoot quiz about endangered animals, testing their knowledge and raising awareness about the challenges these species face.

Thursday's highlight was the creation of ice cream ecosystems, where students learned how various biotic and abiotic factors interact to maintain healthy ecosystems, all while enjoying a tasty treat.

We wrapped up the week with a hands-on activity on Friday, where students made ocean slime. This activity shed light on the impact of pollution and algae on marine life, illustrating how these issues disrupt ocean ecosystems.

A huge thank you to the Year 11 UQ Science Ambassadors for their leadership and to Maddy Colclough, our Year 12 Academic Captain, for her support throughout the week. We also extend our gratitude to the iCentre staff for their fantastic displays and costumes, which added an extra layer of excitement to the occasion. Your efforts made Science Week an unforgettable experience for everyone!
