Transitions & Outcomes
Dear Parents and Carers,
At Mount Alvernia College, we strive to instil in our students not only academic excellence but also the essential life skills that will serve them well beyond their school years. One of these critical skills is the ability to meet deadlines.
When students fail to submit their work on time, the consequences can extend beyond a simple grade penalty. Firstly, missed deadlines disrupt the learning process. Assignments are designed to reinforce lessons and build upon prior knowledge. Delayed submissions mean students miss the opportunity to receive timely feedback that can guide their understanding and improvement. In addition, late submissions may delay the provision of feedback to their peers; in a school where we focus on “We, Not Me”, negatively impacting the learning of others runs contrary to the culture of Mount Alvernia College.
Furthermore, habitual late submissions can lead to increased stress and anxiety. Procrastination often results in rushed work, which can impact the quality of their learning and outcomes. Over time, this often creates a negative cycle, where students become overwhelmed by accumulating tasks, potentially leading to disengagement from their studies.
In the broader context, the habit of meeting deadlines is a crucial skill for success in life beyond school. Whether in further education, the workplace, or personal responsibilities, the ability to manage time effectively and adhere to deadlines is indispensable.
As parents, we play a pivotal role in supporting our children’s time management skills. Encouraging them to plan ahead, set realistic goals, and prioritise their tasks can make a significant difference. By fostering these habits now, we can help our students develop into responsible, resilient, and successful individuals.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping our students thrive.
