DEPUTY PRINCIPAL, Learning & Teaching

Dear Parents and Guardians

At this time of the year, as we are coming out of winter, the days are becoming longer and warmer and it is a great time to celebrate all the exciting activities that are happening around the College.  These co-curricular opportunities enrich students’ learning experience and their time at the College and is a welcome source of celebration in Term 3 when there is a lot of focus on academic work.

Students have been able to showcase their skills and talents and to contribute to the wider community in meaningful ways.  In the last few weeks, students have been involved in running Debating and STEM workshops with students at St Mary’s Primary School, Ascot Vale.  Our senior students competed at the Frayne Speech Festival, congratulations to Audrey Callanan and Christina Camilleri for placing first and second in the public speaking.  Teams of Year 7 – 10 students took part in the Maths Games Days competing against other schools, the choir and AMICCI performed beautifully at the Commissioning Mass for the new CEO of Mercy Education at St Patrick’s Cathedral and we saw a great celebration of all our performing arts students at the Performing Arts Concert.  Students from Year 9 and 10 are currently attending the two day Seeds of Justice Regional Conference in Anglesea and students across all year levels have continued to be part of our CGSAV Sports competitions, most recently in netball.  These are to name a few.

Well done to all students for taking up these wonderful opportunities and representing the College so well.  Thank you to the staff for all their efforts in preparing our students and giving them such a wide variety of opportunities.

Revision Strategies

Over the last few weeks I have spoken to many students individually about preparing for exams.  While exams may seem a long time away for students, the preparation starts early. These are also good tips for keeping on top of work and remembering what you have learned.  Students should set aside a short amount of time each day to review what they have learned that day, revisit this a few days later, at the end of the week and again a week later.  This could involve starting to write summary notes, flash cards, cue cards.  These are good revision strategies but do take time, so having them ready prior to the main revision period is beneficial.  It is also important to create a study schedule and having a list of activities to complete.  A again, this takes time and should be done in the lead up to the main revision period.

Year 12 Trial Exams

A reminder that the Year 12 Trial Exams are taking place in Week 2 of the holidays.  The timetable was sent to students and parents a few weeks ago and is available on Compass.

All Unit 3 & 4 students are expected to sit the exams at the scheduled time and in their school academic uniform.
