School Council

School Council Report

School Council met for their August meeting last Monday and as always it was another productive evening discussing important matters relating to the governance and strategic aims of our great school.

I just wanted to take a moment to update you on a few things that we discussed in our meeting:

  • As you will have seen in previous editions of the school newsletter, we are pleased to add our own school beanie to our uniform!  They are great quality and perfect for these cold winter mornings.  If you would like to purchase them, they are available from the office.
  • School Council was so pleased to see our first morning of the “Miners Hub” café in operation last Wednesday.  Using our kitchen facilities has been an ongoing priority for School Council and we are so glad to have formed this partnership with Mt Rowan Secondary College to provide the café to our school community.  Please support the Miners Hub each Wednesday morning for the rest of Term 3!
  • In late August, I attended School Council President training provided by the Education Department.  It was a great refresher for me and great to learn alongside and hear from other School Council Presidents from a variety of other schools across the state.
  • All our usual sub-committees of Finance, Buildings and Grounds, Policy and Communications/Publicity met prior to our formal meeting and reported back to the wider group.  There are great things happening in all areas which will continue to benefit the school
  • We also heard a report from the Junior School Council, the Kindergarten and the Parents and Friends Association (PFA).  We were pleased to welcome the new PFA President Allira Reeves to our School Council meeting for the first time and look forward to seeing Allira regularly at our meetings
  • Finally, we heard a presentation from of our School Review Report which has been formulated following our School Review in May.  It was great to start to see the strategic direction our school will take in the coming 4 years

Our next School Council meeting is Monday September 9th at 7pm. This meeting will be our “Open Meeting” where we invite all members of the school community to come along and see what happens at School Council.  It’s an opportunity to meet our members and ask any questions you might have.  This has been the stepping stone for a number of our school community to go on to join the School Council, so we look forward to welcoming many new faces on September 9th.

Many thanks,
