Level 4: Connect
Welcome:
Welcome to the end of Week 8. We have had a fabulous couple of weeks especially in regard to our Phillip Island Camp last week. Please keep reading on for our camp report and some great pics. We congratulate our students for their ongoing fabulous all-round behaviour and positive attitudes.
There's quite a few events coming up over the next two weeks so please see the 'Important Dates' section below.
Have a lovely weekend!

Homework:
We hope that Level 4 students have been accessing some of the activities that were on offer in last fortnight's newsletter. Please see some further ideas in this week's newsletter below for some homework ideas.
Our expectation is that students will still be involved in nightly reading: being read to, reading independently or reading to someone else. Mathletics tasks will continue to be set each week with a focus on the content we are covering in class!
Camp:
What a fabulous time we had at camp. Gosh, we were so proud of every single one of our students. They all showed so much independence, resilience, teamwork, co-operation and perseverance. Students slept well, ate well and participated extremely well! It was wonderful to see so many of our students trying new things such as the giant swing, the drop slide, mini golf, archery, ponding, the flying fox, new moves at the disco and getting up to perform at our red faces concert. We were so impressed with our students' enthusiasm for eveything they undertook.
A big thank you to Sean Daley for joining us on camp as well as our terrific parent helpers, Faiza, Tim and Trevor.
Please enjoy the photos below:
Literacy:
Over the next fortnight we will commence our Literature Circles which are like a mini 'book club' for our students. Students will be organised into groups and will share the reading of a chosen text. They will practise their skills in predicting, summarising, questioning, inferring, visualising and making connections. As a group, students will share and discuss their understandings.
We will be using the text 'Circle' by Jeannie Baker as our mentor text in the upcoming fortnight, as it aligns with our Geography and Sustainability focus from this term. The text ‘Circle’ is a timely reminder of the need for global ecological cooperation and responsibility. The bar-tailed godwit’s amazing feat in embarking on this extraordinary migration journey relies on the conservation efforts of many countries. We are looking forward to analysing this text with the students.
Please encourage your child to continue to read a range of literature at home, and if possible listen to your child read and have a conversation about what they have read a couple of times a week.
Maths:
Over the coming weeks, students will deepen their understanding of the place value system by working with decimals, particularly focusing on how it applies to financial concepts. They will explore the importance of decimals in everyday situations, such as handling money, and learn valuable skills for calculating change, budgeting, and financial planning. These activities are designed to enhance their financial literacy, providing them with practical tools they can use in real-life scenarios.
To support this learning at home, parents and carers can encourage their child to practise using money in everyday contexts. This could include involving them in budgeting for groceries, calculating the total cost of items when shopping, or working out the correct change when making purchases. These real-world experiences will help reinforce the concepts they are learning in class and build their confidence in managing money.
Inquiry:
This week we presented students with their Term 3 inquiry projects.
Over the next weeks, they will be creating a project all about Geography and Sustainability- all about a place of their choosing from South America, Africa or even Australia! Their place could be a country, city, town, sea, river or rainforest etc.
It is also their decision how they would like to present their project such as a diorama, booklet, poster, Power Point, mobile, newspaper, magazine, television show, puppet show, board game, model, picture story book or even a piece of art!
Parents and friends are invited to our project expo on the afternoon of Wednesday, 18th September from 3-3.45pm. Check your email for all the details about this event. We would love to have as many of you as possible up to see the students showcasing their learning.
We will see you here again in two weeks time, same time, same place!
