Level 3: Connect

Hello Level 3 Families,

What can you do at home?

Reading - keep reading every afternoon or night.

Spelling: Please see below for 2 weeks of Spelling words. We are focusing on words ending in /le/ or /el/.

As always, you will find some fabulous maths games at https://www.lovemaths.me/operations-36

Literacy - Writing

To continue our work with information reports, students have been exploring how to put information in their own words, as well as edit and uplevel their writing. One editing strategy we are learning about is called C.O.P.S. (capitalisation, organisation, punctuation and spelling). Students are learning how to use these skills to support the writing portion of their ERP projects.

Literacy - Reading

In Reading this week we have looked at the book Hope is the Thing and then the poem that inspired the book.

Hope is the things with feathers https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/42889/hope-is-the-thing-with-feathers-314

Hope is the Thing https://storyboxhub.com/stories/hope-is-the-thing

In the Poem we came across a new word - "chillest" and took the opportunity to learn about Superlative Adjectives with the suffix 'est' - Superlative adjectives are used to describe an object which is at the upper or lower limit of a quality (the tallest, the smallest, the fastest, the highest). We love learning new vocabulary and it's morphology.

Maths

Over the next two weeks, our students will learn how to collect, represent, and interpret data by conducting guided statistical investigations. They'll explore questions that interest them using data from different categories, like favorite activities, hobbies, and class sizes, to name a few.

For those students who would like to continue working on time at home, please visit this website, where you can choose the time skill you'd like to work on.

Social Emotional Learning (S.E.L.)

In Grade 3, we have been using the "Zones of Regulation" during our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons to help us understand and manage our feelings. Each zone is like a different color: blue for when we feel sad or tired, green for when we feel calm and ready to learn, yellow for when we feel excited or frustrated, and red for when we feel angry or out of control. By recognising which zone we are in, we can use strategies to help us stay in control, like taking deep breaths or asking for a break. This helps us take charge of our learning, make strong choices in class, and have positive interactions with our classmates. The Zones of Regulation will continue to be a major focus in classroom discussions next term.

Science

In Science this week we have continued to learn about our world and our place in the solar system. Wilko and Safety Sue have supported our learning by using models and demonstrations. We are so grateful to have teachers who make learning fun and engageing. We now know about the earth's tilt of 23.4 degrees and how it happened!

Inquiry / ERP

Students have all chosen a festival or celebration and it's country of origin to explore. They are also researching about that specific country's famous landmarks, food, and climate, to name a few. Students have completed plans and are now in a deep research phase. We invite our community to come have a look at their great projects on Tuesday 17th of September (Week 10) at 2:45pm. We are so excited to see the final products!

Wishing you a fabulous fortnight ahead.
