Hairy Monster Heads

Here are some fun creations by Level 3B students called ‘Hairy Monster Heads’. Recycling old poly balls, students used ‘lipstick’ paint pens to cover their head, and looked at different emotions for creating mouths. The students made coloured paper with paint pens to cut out for the hair, along with choosing similar coloured creative materials. Our next focus was to construct and connect correctly with glue and pins to create a fun, interesting 3D sculpture.

FABULOUS PORTRAITS

Students in Level 5 have been studying portrait making, and have created some amazing works, using other artist's works as inspirations. They explored creating a realistic shaped face, and then focussed on making light, medium and dark tones.

Physical Education

Over the past two weeks, our Level 5-6 students have been busy brainstorming and creating their own two-handed side-arm strike games. It was fantastic to see them take ownership of their learning by thoughtfully considering how to form their groups and work collaboratively with their peers. We’re excited to see their ideas take shape and look forward to developing and formalising their games in the coming weeks.

Our Level 1-4 students have successfully completed their assessment of the two-handed strike and are now shifting their focus to fielding skills. Through engaging games such as cricket, longball, and modified tee-ball, students will have the opportunity to practise and refine their fielding techniques, emphasising both skill development and teamwork.

Our Foundation students have participated in PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) style rotations, led by our Level 5 students. PMP activities are designed to improve coordination, balance, and spatial awareness, providing our youngest students with a solid foundation for future physical activities. The leadership shown by our Level 5 students in guiding these sessions has been commendable.

Well done to everyone over the past two weeks for their enthusiasm and hard work in PE!

Mandarin

In Mandarin class, Grade 1 & 2 students have been learning about colours and practicing how to use them to describe animals. They’ve been doing a great job incorporating the new vocabulary into fun and creative sentences, such as "The yellow cat" or "The blue bird."

In Mandarin class, Grade 3 students created special Father’s Day cards for their dads. They practiced their Mandarin skills by describing their dad's appearance, using the vocabulary they’ve learned. It was a fun and meaningful activity that allowed them to apply their language learning in a personal way.

In Mandarin class, Grade 5 & 6 students have been learning how to introduce their family members. They practiced by filling in the correct words in sentences, using the vocabulary they’ve learned to complete descriptions about their family. This activity helped reinforce sentence structure and vocabulary in a fun, interactive way.

Performing Arts

The show must go on! Book week can be a fraught time the performing arts room. While stories are at the heart of what we do, and colourful costumes are often employed, some costumes are more practical than others. That said it was amazing to see princesses, wizards, butterflies and all manner of characters joining in the drumming and acro-balance lessons.

Excelsior!
