Grade 1/2

Mrs McBride, Mrs Dallas & Mrs Bray, with special help from Miss Jenni, Mrs Harrison and Mrs Novinec

As we head into Week 8, it is wonderful to hear a happy buzz around our Year 1 & 2 students. It’s rewarding to see our Year 1/2 students walk with confidence when heading to their classroom.

Integrated Studies

Term 3 began with Places and Spaces. Our students researched local places of interest within their local community. A personal favourite was locating our own homes (and those of others) by using Google Maps.

Throughout the term, as part of our COMMUNITY unit, Year 1/ 2 students invited Beaufort’s School Community members into the classroom.

School Community: Year 1/2A had so much fun learning about Road Safety from Christine the Crossing Lady who has held this very important role for 37 years!  We developed an appreciation of how our school’s office runs by interviewing Ms Neville. Currently, Year 1 & 2A students are coming up with a L-O-N-G list of questions for when we interview the head of our school community, Mrs Rush!

Family Community: Throughout the term several of our wonderful parents delighted in answering thoughtful and interesting questions asked by our students to enhance their understanding of Family Community. We thank Kat (Taj), Emily (Aliza) and Erin (Aiden) who bravely fronted up to answer our questions. We hope they thoroughly enjoyed their time as we did learning about their lives.

Local Community: We were thrilled when our students appeared in The Pyrenees Advocate as Holly and her family had recently featured in our local community newspaper.

As we end a very busy term, we are currently learning what is and what isn’t an EMERGENCY and the IMPORTANT steps we MUST follow if we or our loved ones are involved in an emergency. We look forward to Captain Tony from Beaufort C.F.A.'s visit in Week 8 to inform us what an important role the C.F.A. plays in our community as a great way to finish this unit.

Swimming

Throughout Term 3, Year 1 and Year 2 students have participated in swimming lessons at the Ballarat Aquatic Centre. Please note: There is no swimming for Year 2 on the last Friday of term. It has been wonderful to see everyone grow in confidence when learning water safety! Starting with the student group whose lessons involve blowing bubbles in the water to watching those students who are demonstrating correct swimming techniques. BPS students have enthusiastically participated in developing their Personal Bests! BPS teachers are very pleased to see how respectful and cooperative our students are towards their swimming instructors.

Father’s Day Breakfast

Last Friday, our school came alive with the warmth and strength of the Dads, Grandfathers, Uncles, Cousins, Big Brothers and Other Special Men in our lives. Our Year 1/ 2 students shared a BIG breakfast of yummy egg and bacon sandwiches. Our students enjoyed the opportunity to ‘show off’ their own V.S.P’s: Very Special Person.
