The Kindness Tree will be an important part of our Foundation class this semester, serving as a visual reminder to focus on kind and helpful actions. This tree is a age-appropriate way for us to record our acts of kindness. As a class, we talked about how we would celebrate each other's kindness, and we decided to do it by using our hands. Each time a student does something kind, they will place a hand on the tree to symbolise the kindness happening in our classroom and at home.
The most rewarding aspect of this kindness activity has been the daily reminder of how simple it is to bring a smile to someone’s face and spread kindness when we enter the classroom. The photos above illustrate our journey: the Kindness Tree on the left marks the beginning of our project, while the Kindness Tree on the right is now slowly flourishing with acts of kindness throughout the term.
Our wonderful student teacher, Miss Simpson, has been leading some lessons with kindness. Our Prep students have been busy in circle time, chatting about kindness, and they have also been putting on their acting hats to role-play different scenarios where kindness saves the day.
As we near the grand finale of our Kindness Project later this year, the students and I will join forces to sprinkle some kindness on a local community service, showing our gratitude for all their hard work. Stay tuned to see who will be getting a big dose of our appreciation!
After 5 epic weeks, it is time for Miss Simpson to leave our classroom. Her dedication and passion for teaching has been amazing and will take her far. She dived head first into getting to know each of us (and survived!), and we have had a lot of fun with her around. We are going to really miss her, but the real winners here are the future students of Miss Simpson’s own class next year. Good luck, Miss Simpson and thank you for being part of our Prep classroom.
