Term 3 Highlights at St Columba’s
Term 3 has been filled with a holistic approach to learning and development at St Columba’s. The combination of wellbeing initiatives, academic focus, and community connections like local walks and excursions reflects a balanced and enriching environment for our students. It has been incredibly rewarding to witness the growth of both students and teachers throughout these experiences.
Wellbeing Week: This term saw a dedicated focus on the mental, emotional, and social health of our school community. Wellbeing Week, the first week of each term, included activities designed to promote self-awareness mindfulness, and strengthen connections among students and staff.
Units of Inquiry: Each year level successfully completed its fourth unit of inquiry and is now transitioning into the fifth. This milestone is a significant achievement in fostering curiosity, research skills, and global understanding within our students.
New Inquiries Begin: Fresh investigations have sparked excitement as students delve into new concepts, exploring and deepening their understanding across all curriculum areas, including science, history and ethical capabilities.. Our Year 6 students are particularly busy working diligently toward their the Exhibition, which will be held in Week 6 of Term 4.
Maths: This term’s focus on conceptual understanding and a growth mindset in Mathematics has fostered an environment where students are confident in approaching problems, embracing challenges as learning opportunities, and refining their understanding of mathematical principles.
Literacy: Across all year levels, the focus on reading, writing, and spelling has supported the development of critical skills, ensuring that students continue to grow in their communication abilities and understanding of language.
Art Show: The term concluded with the Art Show, a celebration of visual and performance art. This event highlighted our students' creativity and served as a platform for them to showcase their hard work and expressive abilities.
As we reflect on a term full of learning, creativity, and community spirit, we encourage our students to take time over the holiday break to apply what they’ve learned, explore their surroundings, and, most importantly, enjoy a well-deserved break. While we always encourage reading, we also believe that the holidays are a time for play, rest, and enjoyment as the days grow longer and warmer, getting our young people outside and seeing all the fun nature provides. Have a lovely break, and we look forward to a wonderful Term 4.
