Book Week

The theme of the 2024 Book Week is - Reading is Magic and Kildare Library has been celebrating the week with various events and activities to engage students and support a reading culture in the school. Book Week is presented by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) every year as a celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading.

A highlight of the events is the Kildare Bookmark Competition. Students are invited to create their own bookmark design in any medium to reflect the Book Week theme of magic. Entries will be judged on creativity and originality, relevance to the Book Week theme, and artistic quality and storytelling abilities. The winning entry will have their design professionally printed onto bookmarks that will be available at Kildare and Brigidine Libraries and the artwork will be framed and displayed in the Kildare Library for the year. Entries can be submitted to the Kildare or Brigidine Libraries and close this Friday 23 August.  For more details please contact the College Libraries.

A feature of Book Week celebrations is the announcement of the CBCA notables, short list and Book of the Year Awards. The awards recognise and promote quality literature for young Australians by Australian authors, support and encourage a wide range of Australian writers and illustrators of books for young people, and celebrate contributions to Australian children’s literature. The most suitable of the 2024 selection of CBCA books have been purchased and are available to loan or place on hold in the College Libraries.
