PBL - Positive Behaviour For Learning
It’s been a busy couple of weeks with our PBL lessons and the behavioural expectations that students have learnt more about fall under the Safety and Responsibility values.
The important details from the lesson’s were:
I keep my hands feet and objects to myself
- We all have a personal bubble
- Some people don’t like to be touched
- We want to keep everyone safe
I follow instructions from staff members
- When we follow instructions it will keep us safe.
- When we comply with instructions we can participate effectively.
- Following instructions creates a safe and peaceful environment.
Please continue to check in with your child and ask them about the weekly PBL lesson and what the behaviour expectation is. Discuss ways that they can live out that behaviour expectation and give examples of what it looks like to help create a more positive and engaging learning environment for them and all other students and people who belong to the St Peter’s community.
Health & Wellbeing
Currently our F-2 students are actively participating in their Learn to Swim/Water Safety Program. As they are using greater amounts of energy then usual, it is very important that they get a good night's sleep and replenish with a balanced diet for optimal focus when they are at school and beyond. Please see attached dietary guidelines from the raisingchildren.net.au Network, which is a very useful resource for ideas and support on parenting through videos, articles and apps backed by Australian experts.
Berry Street Education Model
On Monday at our school closure day, staff commenced the first day of our four day training with Berry Street. Over the four days we will be guided through five domains: Body, Relationship, Stamina, Engagement and Character. The five domains correspond with child-development capacities that each student must grow in order to be ‘ready to learn’. When considering how to best meet the needs of students, we focus on building self-regulatory ability and relational capacity, and then nurture wellbeing and willingness to engage in learning.
Day 1 centred on the topic of Body – How to help students to regulate their stress response, de-escalate in school and classroom contexts and provide strategies for increased focus. As a staff, through this professional development we will continue to refine our practice to best meet the needs of all our students.
