God's Love and Care for All

Term 3, Week 9

Dear Parents/Carers,

Feast day is always a highlight celebration at Our Lady’s. We commenced the day with a whole school Mass acknowledging Mary’s birthday. When we celebrate Mary’s birthday, we honor Jesus too by showing respect for one another. Father Alex reminded us during the Homily that Mary is the most powerful woman in the world because she gave birth to Jesus. The day was filled with lots of fun activities for the students and let’s not forget the sausage sizzle. Thanks to Mr Cliff and Mr Danny for cooking over 1200 sausages. A special thank you to Ms. Elia and Mr. Pietryk for their thorough organisation of the day and thank you to all our staff who ensured the day ran smoothly and students were entertained.

A message from Mr McEntee: I bid you a warm hello from Jerusalem.  I have been privileged to visit and journey the lands where  Mary Joseph and Jesus lived their lives. A highlight was a visit to Bethlehem and the Church of Nativity- St Catherines Church, the oldest complete church in the Christian world and the birthplace of Jesus. a truly amazing and spiritual experience. You enter through the Door of Humility- small entrance, then enter a large Church then descend into the “Grotto of the Holy Manger’ - where a silver star marks the spot where Christ was born !- I could go on !!! As with all special places a Church has been built at the site to commemorate the speciality of the site. Over the centuries churches have been built, destroyed and rebuilt so there is a rich vein of history at each site.

I also visited the walled old city of Jerusalem and the wall of the temple - the most sacred site in Jewish Religion. See you all soon and go Pies- Here is a photo of me praying with my friends that Collingwood win the grand final.

Next week we farewell Mrs Lok who will be going on maternity leave and awaiting the arrival of her second child. We wish Mrs Lok, Ryan and Sonya many memorable moments with their new addition to their family.  We thank Mrs Lok for all her dedication, inspiration and guidance she has provided her students over the years. Mrs Lok has been a valuable member of Our Lady’s community, her kind and nurturing spirit has been a blessing to the students, staff and school community. We look forward to meeting your baby when you come to visit us. Miss Chanel Romeo will be teaching 2D for the remainder of the year and is very excited about this opportunity.

We also officially welcome Tam Phi to our staff who will be replacing Mrs Stylinaou teaching 5B on Thursday and Friday for the remainder of the year.

Footy Day: Next Friday students and staff are encouraged to wear their footy colors. We will commence the day with a whole school parade at 9:00am.

Don’t forget: Student free day on Monday 11th September.

Have a great weekend and stay warm.
