Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

IPADS/ SCHOOL ICT- 2024

We have discussed at leadership and at School Council the need to re-consider our commitment to the student owned devices policy that is in place.

We along with all other schools find it difficult to monitor safe ICT behaviours when devices are being transported between home and school, which often means inappropriate conduct at home spills into school.

We also believe that children are spending far too much time on their devices and while we discourage them from doing so our current policy may seem contradictory.

We have concluded that a phasing out of the ‘bring your own device’ program commencing in 2024 is the best policy moving forward.

Students entering Year 3 in 2024 will use devices sourced and purchased by the school. These devices will remain at school and will have the necessary applications and protections. Parents are not required to purchase or provide ICT devices for their children in Year 3 2024.

This was moved and accepted at school council on 8 August 2023.

Students from Years 4-6 will continue using their own devices at school as this is a gradual phasing out process. We will continue to monitor use of these devices with the suitable educational apps required at school. We seek parent support monitoring safe ICT when students are at home.

YEAR 6 - CYC MELBOURNE CAMP

As you all know August has been camp week at Warrnambool Primary School. We finish this week with the fantastic Year 6 Camp to Melbourne.

All reports from the staff attending have been very positive and the activities such as the MCG tour have been highlights. Some of the students even got the opportunity to partake in mock press conferences like the AFL coaches. The accommodation has been described as first class and the conduct of our students has been excellent. I’d like to congratulate them on their great participation and to the staff and volunteers in attendance for their commitment and effort. Please check out our Facebook page for lots more photos.

Thank you to all parents who have supported our great school camps programs throughout the year. We will continue to prioritise this again in 2024.

BOOK WEEK

Thank you to all parents for supporting the book week parade and dress up on Monday. The costumes were great and there was a fun-filled mood across the whole school.

Thanks to Cathy Gleeson and other staff for organising the activities throughout the week and for giving our students access to the short-listed books. They have been used across all year levels of the school and will be into the future. I enjoyed reading to classes this week as part of a lucky dip.

FOOTY BREAKFAST- FRIDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER

The Footy Breakfast is back!

For those who haven't been around for the Footy Breakfast it's held on the last day of Term 3 with this year being Friday 15th September.

The WPPA will be looking for volunteers to assist on the day with cooking and serving duties. There will be more news regarding the menu and ordering procedures but it is always a fun way to end Term 3.

SWIMMING LESSONS - TERM 4

As part of the 2023 curriculum, students will once again participate in eight swimming lessons over four weeks at the start of Term 4 at Aqua Zone. The reasoning behind schools providing these lessons is to ensure students learn how to swim and to help develop lifelong skills in water safety to reduce their risk of drowning and injury.

Skill check forms have been sent home with students and must be returned to the school office as soon as possible.

Payment if not already paid through curriculum contributions and consent must be completed on Compass.

Classes will require parent helpers so if your able to assist please contact your child's teacher.

If you have any questions or require another skills check form please contact the school office.

FOOD SHARE DRIVE

The Warrnambool Primary School JSC members are once again holding our Annual Food Share Drive!

Donations are being accepted to the end of the term in each of the classrooms.

So please get purchasing to support such a worthy cause to our school.

Have a great weekend!
