Learning in J09

Junior School Sgardelis is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

Term 3 in J09!

At the beginning of the term, J09 enjoyed attending our Year One Melbourne Zoo Excursion!  Students loved riding on the bus to the city and exploring all the animals at the zoo.  It was a big day of walking, but students demonstrated the 3Rs of Pakenham Springs beautifully.  We were so lucky to get up close to lots of animals on the day, including the seals (which made us laugh a lot!), the lemurs, butterflies, elephants, giraffes, and orangutans.

We took inspiration from the butterfly exhibit at the zoo and wrote information reports about them, including the subheadings of diet, appearance, and habitat.  We created a labeled diagram and a butterfly craft with symmetrical wings to go along with our writing.  Come and check out our writing on the display board in our hallway, and our beautiful butterfly crafts!

The zoo excursion also helped us learn about different animal habitats and what adaptations animals have to help them survive in these habitats.  Our class has been busy painting animal habitats and then choosing an animal to live in our painting.  We have enjoyed learning about the skill of camouflage and how it helps animals hide from predators or hide to catch their prey!
